German Shepherd Attacks 89-Year-Old Woman And Her Dog In Michigan

A German shepherd attacked an 89-year-old woman and her dog on Monday while they were out for a walk in Farmington Hills, Michigan.

Click on Detroit reports that a German shepherd jumped from a truck and attacked both the woman and her dog. Her pet died later that afternoon.

Marie Clark said she planned to take her pooch for “a little walk” before feeding her lunch and taking a nap. When the incident occurred, Clark said she was “screaming and crying and hollering for help.”

A painter, who was busy working on a condo across the street from where Clark lives, brought his German shepherd with him for the day. He left the dog alone in the truck for hours while he painted. The window was down just enough for the animal to get out. Before anyone knew it, the large dog went after Dolly.

“I could hear him eating up my dog,” Clark said. “There was nothing I could do because that dog was too big.”

Animal control couldn’t remove the dog because the dog’s owner wasn’t from Farmington Hills. Otherwise, the canine would’ve been labeled as vicious, and his owner would be required to have a $1 million insurance policy. He’d also have to post warning signs, enroll in mandatory AKC training, and register his dog annually. In this case, the dog owner only received a ticket and got his dog back. He did apologize to Clark.

Hometown Life reports that paramedics arrived on the scene and discovered Clark was knocked down to the ground and suffered abrasions to her hand and arm. They treated her at the scene before turning care over to her doctor.

The dog let loose of her small dog after she began screaming. The 89-year-old woman who was attacked by the German shepherd said she got the dog after her husband died.

This isn’t the first known dog attack on an elderly woman to happen this year. A North Carolina woman the same age was mauled by two dogs in a vicious attack back in March. According to WNCN News, 86-year-old Bessie Flowers was visiting family when two pit bulls attacked and killed her in Arboretum. She died from severe bite wounds to the neck and head after losing a substantial amount of blood.

Flowers was walking back into the house from the back porch when she either slipped or tripped onto a dog bed. The family dogs ran over to the elderly woman and allegedly started playing with her while she was down on the floor. A police source said the playing then turned to aggression. The woman’s daughter managed to separate the two dogs.

Authorities said both dogs were licensed and vaccinated. They were taken by Animal Care and Control for a 10-day-long quarantine. The victim’s daughter didn’t want to sign over the dogs, so animal control seized them.

It wasn’t the first time that the pit bulls were known for being aggressive. Officers were called to the home in April 2013 in regards to a complaint about two aggressive dogs, but the call was deemed “unsubstantiated.”

A chain of dog attacks has erupted over the months. Young children and the elderly have been victims in what appears to be unprovoked attacks. The animals have reacted unpredictably in a lot of cases due to sudden changes at home or an incident that throws them off.
