WWE News: Yet Another Former WWE Superstar Negotiating Possible Return To The Company

The WWE talent pool is finally beginning to get deeper with the draft in the rear-view mirror and the brand extension set to go into effect the night after Battleground. Vince McMahon promised his shareholders and the WWE Universe back in May that the roster would be the largest it’s ever been come this summer. We’re finally starting to see that declaration take shape.

Although there were no surprise returns Tuesday night on Smackdown, the WWE dipped into their developmental system and plucked seven NXT superstars to join the main roster. Finn Balor headlined this particular new crop and should immediately be thrust into significant storylines when he arrives on RAW next Monday. Joining him in the influx are American Alpha, Nia Jax, Carmella, Alexa Bliss, and Mojo Rawley.

It’s expected that Shinsuke Nakamura, Samoa Joe, and Bayley will be promoted shortly as well. As a matter of fact, if Bayley isn’t revealed to be Sasha Banks’ mystery partner against Charlotte and Dana Brooke this Sunday, then Nakamura, Joe, and Bayley will headline the next group of call-ups scheduled for September. It doesn’t appear that seven new stars are enough to adequately fill two distinct rosters, and more reinforcements are on the way.

The Inquisitr reported on Thursday that Curt Hawkins and Rhyno have officially signed WWE contracts and will immediately be assigned to the Smackdown brand. Stephanie McMahon announced this past week that the WWE would be reviving the Cruiserweight Division, and they will be competing exclusively on RAW. It’s expected the high-flyers will be unveiled in September after the conclusion of the Cruiserweight Classic determines a new champion for the division.

Over the past several months, we’ve heard names like John Morrison, Carlito, MVP, Tajiri, Brian Kendrick, and Stevie Richards rumored to make their WWE returns in lieu of the brand split. But a new name has emerged recently, according to Pro Wrestling Sheet. PWS is reporting that the company has been in discussions with former WWE superstar Jinder Mahal about a return this summer.

Apparently, the two sides were engaged in talks a while back, but it has been a couple of weeks since there’s been any communication. We’ve heard for a while now that the WWE is looking to bolster their roster by adding talented young stars from the independent scene, as well as former WWE superstars who can still go and have some tread left on their tires. Mahal, real name Yuvraj Singh Dhesi, just turned 30 on the night of the WWE Draft and had been wrestling mainly in Texas, so he would fit the criteria.

Jinder Mahal made his WWE debut in 2011, but he only lasted until 2014 when the company executed their biggest roster purge until this past May. Mahal was joined by JTG, Aksana, Teddy Long, Camacho, Brodus Clay, Evan Bourne, Yoshi Tatsu, referee Marc Harris, Curt Hawkins and Drew McIntyre. As noted, Hawkins just re-signed with the WWE. Mahal and McIntyre’s releases effectively ended their stable, 3MB (Three-Man Band) though Heath Slater has remained with the company.

The 3MB gimmick was arguably Mahal’s most memorable in WWE, in addition to mini-feuds with The Great Khali and Ryback. Jinder was often found on the losing end of most of the programs he was involved with, and 3MB was generally used as a comedy-jobbing stable, similar to Slater’s most recent group, the Social Outcasts. Slater, of course now, is shooting an angle as the WWE’s “hottest free agent” after going undrafted Tuesday night. The WWE has gone as far as to tease his involvement in the indies to tease the free agency thing even more. But you can now add Jinder Mahal to the list of potential returning stars to help fill roster spots.
