NBA Rumors: Jason Terry Leaving Houston Rockets

For the majority of NBA players, it is better to rent than to own a home. According to NBC Sports, Jason Terry will be leaving the Houston Rockets. The veteran guard was informed that he is no longer a part of the plans. Since he is not done playing just yet, Terry will be seeking a new home in the National Basketball Association.

With the Houston Rockets, James Harden owns the starting shooting guard position. He is one of the best offensive stars in the NBA. Management decided to add some firepower to the backup shooting guard position this summer by signing Eric Gordon away from the New Orleans Pelicans.

At one point in his NBA career, Jason Terry was able to play the point guard position. Throughout the past couple of years, coaches discovered that he was much more effective as a scorer, so they utilized him as a backup shooting guard.

With James Harden and Eric Gordon in place, Jason Terry saw the writing on the wall. It was confirmed to him when the Houston Rockets did the right thing by letting Terry know of their plans, so that the 6-foot-2 guard could find a new home in the NBA.

At 38 years of age, Jason Terry averaged 5.9 points and 1.4 assists a game for the Houston Rockets last season, according to ESPN. Those numbers are not going to amaze NBA fans. However, coaches and executives know that Terry can help spread the floor with his outside shooting and guide the team with his experience and leadership.

A potential landing spot for Jason Terry could be the Golden State Warriors. NBA veterans are flocking to that franchise so that they can chase a championship. Kevin Durant, David West and Zaza Pachulia are the latest ones. Terry could become a useful replacement for Leandro Barbosa, who opted to return to the Phoenix Suns in free agency.

Another potential landing spot for Jason Terry is the Dallas Mavericks, a team that he won an NBA Championship with. Owner Mark Cuban is looking to add as much help for Dirk Nowitzki as possible while the future Hall of Fame inductee chases one final ring before retirement.

The New York Knicks could be of interest to Jason Terry. The franchise recently signed Courtney Lee to be the starting shooting guard. His backup is Sasha Vujacic. If Terry feels that he can beat out Vujacic, then he can become a regular part of the rotation.

Having a strong desire to prove to the NBA that he can be a starter again, Jeremy Lin decided to walk away from the Charlotte Hornets in free agency to sign with the Brooklyn Nets. The Hornets are attempting to fill that void by acquiring Ramon Sessions and Jeremy Lamb, two players that Jason Terry can compete against for playing time.

According to the Fort Worth Star Telegram, Jason Terry wants to play in the NBA until he is 40 years old. After that, the former Arizona Wildcats star wants to become a front office executive or coach in the league.

One of the best run franchises in professional sports is the Dallas Mavericks. Mark Cuban, Donnie Nelson and Rick Carlisle are as good of a trio that you will find in the NBA. If Jason Terry is serious about joining that side of the business, then he should consider being an apprentice under Cuban, Nelson and Carlisle.

Even at his advanced age, Jason Terry should be able to find a home in the NBA next season. Injuries happen every year, and coaches like having guys with experience at the end of their bench.
