‘RoboCop’ Teaser Poster Surfaces Online

The official teaser poster for director José Padilha’s RoboCop reboot has surfaced over at Cine1, arriving hot on the heels of recent set photos showcasing the titular character’s brand new look. Depending who you are, the retelling of Paul Verhoeven’s violent 80s action/satire is either incredible news or the sign that Hollywood has officially run out of ideas.

“We’ve got the future under control,” reads the teaser poster, which you can find embedded beneath this article. Film, which stars The Killing’s Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, and Samuel L. Jackson, isn’t slated to hit theaters until 2013.

The RoboCop reboot is being described as follows:

“The year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front. Alex Murphy (Kinnaman) is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilizes their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex’s life. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.”

Not too long ago, former House star Hugh Laurie was attached to the film. Unfortunately for fans of the FOX medical drama, negotiations with the actor ultimately fell through. In order to fill the void left by Laurie, producers tapped Michael Keaton for the role.

Earlier this weekend, images from the set found their way onto numerous movie-oriented websites, giving fans a glimpse of the titular hero’s brand new design. In Padilha’s version of the story, RoboCop isn’t nearly as bulky or mechanical. Instead, the filmmakers have taken a sleeker, cleaner approach to the look and feel of the character.

Are you a can of Robocop? How do you feel about the upcoming remake?
