Nina Dobrev May Not Be The Only ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Person Returning In Season 8

There may be a lot of news surrounding Nina Dobrev’s potential return for The Vampire Diaries Season 8, but she may not be the only person returning. There are hints that a certain bad guy will come back to the show.

Rumors abound that Chris Wood will make a jump back to The Vampire Diaries now that Containment has officially been cancelled. As Zap2It reports, Julie Plec is CW’s answer to Shonda Rhimes, and the actors like to stick within the family where possible. Wood made the jump from The Vampire Diaries to Containment, so why not go back?

The problem is Wood’s character was the notorious evil Gemini witch Kai. Not only was he a bad guy, but he was also killed at the end of Season 6. Damon decapitated him after he became a vampire-witch hybrid. How could he possibly come back from that?

It turns out that Julie Plec and the writers of the show are looking for ways to bring him back. The writers all loved him and want to find a way to add him back. They just need to find a good and believable way to put him back into the world of Mystic Falls.

He certainly wouldn’t be the first character to die and come back. How often have Bonnie, Jeremy and Alaric died and come back? It is a running theme with the show that dead doesn’t mean dead; even more so than the likes of Supernatural, where the Winchester brothers have died and come back time and time again.

Nothing has been worked out to bring Kai back yet. That doesn’t mean something won’t be worked out in the near future. Filming may have started on The Vampire Diaries Season 8, but it will take months to complete. After all, the mid-season break is added in the winter to give the shows chance to complete filming. It is possible that they will find a way to bring him back during the break and add him in at the very end.

This would certainly be possible if this really is the final season of The Vampire Diaries. Is it possible that he will be brought back to help Elena awaken, without the death of Bonnie? Dobrev has already been confirmed for the series finale of The Vampire Diaries. That was the agreement between Dobrev and Plec before she left the show in Season 6.

However, Parent Herald now suggests that Dobrev will no longer return due to a rift between the actress and the showrunner. The publication also suggests that the announcement of her return was just a publicity stunt to get more viewers for the potential final season of the show. It is no secret that viewing figures dropped significantly between The Vampire Diaries Seasons 6 and 7, and Dobrev’s departure was partially the reason. Fans expected the show to end with Season 7, but the CW made the decision to renew it for another year. Ian Somerhalder reportedly expects it to be the final season, and said that there is now a year to close storylines and create the ending that the fans deserve.

Does this mean that fans will get to see the witch they love to hate again? There are many fans who wanted to see Bonnie and Kai together. While she may be with Enzo now, is it possible that there will be another time jump to see Enzo gone and Kai back to be with Bonnie?

The Vampire Diaries Season 8 begins on October 21, when some of the questions may be answered.
