Ian Somerhalder And Nina Dobrev To Announce Her Return To ‘The Vampire Diaries’ At Comic-Con 2016?

Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev are expected to make an appearance at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Will they announce Dobrev’s return to The Vampire Diaries during the event?

According to Parent Herald, there is a good chance that Season 8 will be the show’s final outing. If the show is about to end, then Dobrev could reprise her role as Elena Gilbert before things wrap up for good.

As fans will recall, last season ended with a mysterious creature living inside the vault. The show is expected to reveal the identity of said creature next season, sparking some speculation that the big bad will take Elena’s form.

A description of the creature has been released, and it sounds plausible that it could end up being Elena.

“[Sybil] is a creature who is out to seduce Damon (Somerhalder) into turning into something evil,” the official description reads.

In the Season 7 finale, Damon ventured inside the vault after Elena’s voice called him out. With Elena holding so much influence over Damon, it seems likely that the creature would take her form to seduce him.

Meanwhile, Ian Somerhalder has already confirmed that Season 8 will be his last on The Vampire Diaries. Kat Graham has also declared her exit after next season.

The Vampire Diaries has also experienced a lull in ratings ever since Dobrev’s exit back in Season 6. In fact, the network even moved the show to a different night for the first time ever in order to attract more viewers.

Unfortunately, this tactic did not work. Coupled with Season 7’s low ratings, the multiple exits point toward a possible end to the beloved series.

With the end in sight, Movie News Guide is reporting that executive producer Julie Plec has already hinted that Dobrev will make a cameo during the final episode. After all, Plec left Elena’s story wide open in hopes that Dobrev would someday return to the series.

Furthermore, Dobrev has several options available. Not only could she return as Sybil, but she could reprise her role as either Elena or Katherine. With so many options at her disposal, it seems likely that Dobrev will make a final cameo next season.

Of course, nothing officially has been confirmed, and there is a possibility that the series will live on without Somerhalder.

Whatever ends up happening, fans will at least see the former on-screen couple together again during comic con. Hopefully, the pair addresses the rumors of Dobrev’s return and settles the matter once and for all.

According to Chatt Sports Net, Somerhalder has been a mainstay at the San Diego Comic-Con and has already confirmed his appearance at this year’s event.

Apparently, Dobrev and Somerhalder are still on good terms with each other despite their past history. Considering how they have no ill feelings toward each other, Dobrev is expected to make a showing at Comic-Con.

Somerhalder and Dobrev dated each other while they worked on The Vampire Diaries. Their relationship, unfortunately, ended, and Dobrev subsequently left the hit series.

Despite the initial awkwardness, it sounds as though Somerhalder and Dobrev have made amends and might be willing to work together again. That being said, Dobrev’s attendance at Comic-Con has not been confirmed.

Production for Season 8 of The Vampire Diaries is expected to begin in the coming months. An official Season 8 premiere date has not been set, though it should premiere sometime this coming fall on The CW.

Until then, fans will have to keep track of the updates at the San Diego Comic-Con to find out if any surprising announcements have been made.
