Joshua Long: Man Stole Human Brain For Disturbing Reason [VIDEO]

There aren’t many un-disturbing reasons to steal a human brain, but Joshua Long of Pennsylvania has been charged with abuse of a corpse because of his strange usage of a stolen human brain.

It was Long’s aunt who made the grisly discovery, Fox 43 reports. The lady was simply cleaning up the trailer where Long and his accomplice, Robby Zoller and Zoller’s girlfriend, Angela Micklo, had stored the human brain, in a display container of the type you might see in a museum, in a Walmart sack. Zoller had vacated the trailer, and Long’s aunt was cleaning the vacant property when she stumbled across the brain-filled bag underneath the porch on June 21. She promptly contacted Silver Spring Township Police, who then brought in the Pennsylvania state police into the investigation.

It’s not every day that a human brain is found underneath the porch of an abandoned trailer.

Neighbors reacted to the brain being found underneath the porch. Pat Beck and her husband, David, said they knew something might be wrong when the police showed up to the vacant trailer-home next door, but of course, they had no idea that it was because a human brain had been found under the porch. When they found out, they were horrified.

“It just scares me to death,” Pat said. “I didn’t think they were that kind of people, but nowadays, you never know.”

But the reason why Long, 26, and his accomplice, Zoller, who is still on the run, stole the brain and kept it hidden under the porch is even more disturbing.

It was easy enough for police to question Joshua Long, though, since he was already in jail for unrelated charges. Long has allegedly committed a string of burglaries. His pal Zoller and Zoller’s girlfriend, however, are still apparently on the run.

Long himself claims that he and Zoller were using the formaldehyde that the brain was suspended and preserved in to make and smoke what is referred to as “wet” marijuana, the Huffington Post reports. Making and smoking “wet” marijuana is a trend, the Drug Enforcement Administration reports. Making it entails users soaking joints in embalming fluid, which reportedly gives the marijuana an added, hallucinogenic effect. Furthermore, the DEA reports, “cigarettes soaked with embalming fluid tend to burn slower, thereby increasing the chance for a prolonged high.” The joints are then dried, and cost about $20 a piece, and are known on the street as “wet,” “fry,” and “illy.” The “wet” marijuana joints are extremely carcinogenic, and can cause serious, long-term health problems, including brain damage.

Joshua Long was keeping a stolen human brain hidden underneath the porch of his aunt’s trailer in order to get high. And if that isn’t disturbing enough, Long also reportedly named the brain — which is presumed to be a stolen specimen, according to the Cumberland County coroner — Freddy.

“Freddy” is presumed to have been a teaching specimen, so a charge of murder won’t be added to Long’s rap sheet. Instead, in addition to burglary charges, Long has been charged in abuse of a corpse, as well as conspiracy.

Long allegedly told investigators he knew it was illegal to have the human brain, according to the Associated Press.

“The defendant related that he knew it was illegal to have the brain and that he and (another man) would spray the embalming fluid on ‘weed’ to get high,” wrote Trooper John Boardman, the investigator on the strange case of the stolen brain.

Joshua Long is currently being held in Cumberland County Prison being in lieu of $100,000 bail for his alleged role in a string of burglaries.

Of course, not everyone who steals body parts do so in order to get high. Some have even darker motives, as in the case of one man who stole the corpses of little girls — nearly 30 of them, in fact — and then kept them in his apartment for long stretches of time before his dark secret was discovered by his own parents.
