‘The Walking Dead’: New Image of Season 7, Plus Lucille And Negan Feature Heavily In AMC Merchandising At San Diego Comic Con

The Season 6 finale of AMC’s The Walking Dead left fans wondering just who Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) killed in the closing moments. For the entire break between seasons, it is a guarantee fans will be trying to work out who died at the hands of Negan. However, for AMC, while a cliffhanger that is constantly talked about and analysed can be a good thing, it makes revealing information about the upcoming Season 7 of The Walking Dead at this weekend’s San Diego Comic Con very tricky.

It is expected AMC will show a trailer for Season 7 of The Walking Dead at some point during their panel at Comic Con. The trick will be showing enough to get the fans excited but without revealing who did — or didn’t — die at the hands of Negan. This means, for the trailer video, they are pretty much limited to showing footage of Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and his son, Carl (Chandler Riggs), both of whom Negan is unlikely to kill after he uttered the line, “Anybody moves, anybody says anything, cut the boy’s other eye out and feed it to his father.” Considering AMC just released the image below to Entertainment Weekly of Morgan Jones (Lennie James), Morgan and Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) might also get a chunk of airtime in the upcoming teaser video.

The full image, which can be seen on Entertainment Weekly, shows Morgan holding his weapon of choice, his staff, and is looking slightly behind himself as he stands in front of a dirty window. He doesn’t look particularly stressed out, but more ready for whatever comes his way. Morgan and Carol met up with a new group of people at the conclusion of Season 6 of The Walking Dead, so perhaps the building behind him is a part of this new group’s compound? Entertainment Weekly speculate as such, indicating the new group is likely the Kingdom, a group that exists in the comic book series the TV show is based on. If this is the case, the trailer video likely to be shown at Comic Con this year could also include an introduction to this new group of people.

While AMC has released three distinctly different pictures from the upcoming Season 2 return of Fear The Walking Dead, for the series that started it all, The Walking Dead, the images released have been of the Season 6 finale scene. Negan had featured heavily in all the images up until the promotional still of Morgan.

TVLine also released the following key artwork AMC will be featuring at San Diego Comic Con. Once again, it is a rehash of the Season 6 finale but at least it confirms The Walking Dead will return in October.

Negan and his favorite weapon of choice, Lucille, also features heavily in the merchandising at San Diego Comic Con. Skybound‘s website released images from the newest merchandise for Comic Con and Lucille came in many forms. There is a T-shirt featuring the slogan “Take if like a champ”, jewelry, pins, a replica bat, key rings and a special figurine set featuring Negan and Glenn.

As yet, AMC has not confirmed the Season 7 premiere date for The Walking Dead, although it is anticipated to follow shortly after the finale of Season 2 of Fear The Walking Dead. Fans will also be able to get their Walking Dead fix at San Diego Comic Con later this month. The Walking Dead panel will be held Friday, July 22, at 1 p.m. in Hall H.
