Honey Boo Boo’s dad has been involved in an accident while partaking in an obscure racing sport. Mike ‘Sugar Bear’ Thompson was spotted hobbling outside his Georgia home on a new pair of crutches yesterday by TMZ – the result of a spot of ‘mud boggin”.

‘Mud boggin”, since you asked, involves racing and stunting off-road vehicles through mud. It’s a thrilling and quick sport, but also one laced with danger – as Honey Boo Boo’s dad has now found out.

Sugar Bear was snapped leaving a doctor’s office on crutches after being treated for his injuries on Friday. Wife June was spotted at his side as he left the clinic near his home. It’s not yet known whether Sugar Bear broke any bones when his ATV crashed, but that swollen right foot looks pretty painful.

Thompson is the dad of reality TV starlet Honey Boo Boo, otherwise known as 6-year-old Alana Thompson. In the TV show Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, Alana and her family, including mom June and sisters Anna, Jessica and Lauryn, are followed through their everyday interactions. A lot of the show, which airs on TLC, focuses on June and Alana, as the mother prepares her youngest daughter for entry into beauty pageants.

Young Alana has built a cult fanbase on another TLC series, Toddlers & Tiaras, and has been given her own spin-off series. Ratings for Here Comes Honey Boo Boo recently eclipsed those of the Republican National Convention, and matche the ratings for Bill Clinton’s speech at the Democrat equivalent.
