5 Green Bay Packers On The Roster Bubble In 2016 NFL Training Camp

The Green Bay Packers are once again viewed as legitimate Super Bowl contenders heading into the 2016 NFL season. Mike McCarthy and the Packers saw their 2015 season end in heartbreaking fashion at the hands of the Arizona Cardinals in overtime. It was a crushing blow after Aaron Rodgers had found Jeff Janis for a Hail Mary throw to score a touchdown that sent the game to overtime.

Rodgers and the Green Bay offense went through some struggles last season, mainly due to injury. Jordy Nelson went down with a torn ACL, while Ty Montgomery also went down with injury. Couple that with the fact that Eddie Lacy was struggling due to weight issues and the offense was even more disappointing.

Even though Rodgers had a “down season,” there is no question that he is still the best quarterback in the NFL.

That being said, training camp is about to begin for the 2016 NFL season. There are a few players in Green Bay that have to come through with a big training camp and preseason if they want to keep their roster spot.

Which five Packers are currently on the roster bubble and are in danger of losing their job in 2016 NFL training camp?

Davante Adams, Wide Receiver

Perhaps the biggest name on the roster bubble in training camp is Davante Adams. He was expected to be a big part of the Green Bay offense last season, but came up with a big dud. Adams’ roster spot is far from secure, according to to a report from Pro Football Talk, and he has to prove to the coaching staff that he is worthy of making the final roster in training camp and preseason action.

Carl Bradford, Linebacker

Carl Bradford was the Packers’ fourth-round draft pick in the 2014 NFL Draft and many thought he’d turn into a solid role player. Now, he is set to make a bid for a roster spot in 2016. Bradford has to beat out some talented young linebackers to make the roster and there is certainly no guarantee that he will.

Marquise Williams/Joe Callahan, Quarterback

Green Bay may decide to keep two quarterbacks and if that is the case, Marquise Williams and Joe Callahan will be battling for that position. Aaron Rodgers and Brett Hundley are comfortable the No. 1 and No. 2 options on the roster, respectively. Williams likely is the better player, but it will be an open competition.

John Crockett, Running Back

Eddie Lacy and James Starks are the top two running back options for the Packers this season. John Crockett is now on the roster bubble, thanks to the acquisition of undrafted free agent Don Jackson. Crockett is a talented running back, but the Packers could decide to go with the potential that Jackson possesses.

Jared Abbrederis, Wide Receiver

There is no denying the potential that Jared Abbrederis possesses, but he might be the odd man out of the wide receiver corps. Jeff Janis likely has more potential and it sounds like Green Bay is higher on him. That being said, McCarthy has always liked Abbrederis and there is a chance that he could find a spot on the roster for another receiver.

Expect to see the Packers end up deep in the NFC playoffs once again this season. It won’t be easy to go up against the Carolina Panthers, Seattle Seahawks, and Arizona Cardinals, but they are more than capable of beating all three of them. Whenever a team has Rodgers on their side, they should always be feared.

Do you think any of these five players will end up being cut? Who else do you think could be on the roster bubble? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below!
