Dog News: Baltimore Cop Rescues, Adopts Abandoned Dog; Owners Use Surveillance Cam To Locate Stolen Pooch

These two stories of animal rescue will warm your hearts. One compassionate police officer rescued an abandoned dog from certain death and adopted it. In another news story, owners get back their beloved canine, thanks to surveillance footage at their home.

Recently, a police officer in Baltimore discovered a dog that had been tied to a doorknob inside a deserted house. Reportedly, Ashely Acord was lucky that she had gone into the home at that time, as the dog might have died from thirst if no one had found it.

On the date of the incident, Acord was on a regular patrol when she saw someone exiting from the abandoned home. She spoke to the Baltimore Sun about her harrowing experience.

“No one was supposed to be there.”

After seeing the person flee the home, Acord and another officer called for assistance on the off chance an emergency situation required extra officers on the scene. However, upon investigating the home, the police officers discovered a hapless dog tied to a doorknob, as Acord explained.

“He was actually groomed pretty well. He didn’t show any signs of aggression. He just seemed like he wanted to attention.”

The officer transported the puppy to the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS). However, while taking the rescued canine to the shelter, Acord formed a bond with the animal, and she knew they were meant for one another. After Acord and the dog had walked into the shelter, she completed the necessary paperwork and adopted the animal.

Despite her desire for the animal, BARCS had to follow regulations and put the dog on a mandatory stray hold. Lucky for her, no one came to claim the pooch.

“They said he would be mine if I still wanted him. I had a dog growing up. I’ve watched my friend’s dog on and off, and I’ve always been an animal lover, specifically for dogs.”

Today, Acord and her new companion pup now live happily together. She named him Grayson.

Recently, a Maltese named Mickey was reported stolen from his yard. Thankfully, Mickey’s family regularly takes surveillance videos of their yard, and they were able to recover a video of the pet nabbing. The quick-thinking family posted the video on the internet, and Mickey was located within a few hours.

Many, including one of Mickey’s owners, Lucy Gureghian, are calling the video very hard to watch. Gureghian spoke about the bitter, but sweet incident.

“It’s hard to actually see it with your own eyes. To see that he clearly didn’t even want to go, and the fact that she forced it upon him and then just took him.”

The video was not the only thing that helped in the return of the family’s dog; her emotional pleas piqued the public’s interest. Shortly after the video was released, a news station interviewed Gureghian about the missing dog.

“Please just bring him back, that’s all we ask for. We won’t press any charges. We just want our dog back. He’s part of our family, and we miss him very much.”

Not long after the interview, the family decided to canvass the area and look for Mickey again. This time, they discovered a sign that read “Dog Found!” with a picture of Mickey attached to it.

The owners searched for the person responsible for posting the flyer and found him relatively quickly. However, the person that had found Mickey was not the person in the video; the suspect is still at large.

However, we can remain thankful that Mickey was reunited with his family. According to the person that found Mickey, someone they had never seen before had merely left the animal with them. Gureghian was suspicious about the person’s story but did not press charges.
