Meghan Trainor Receives Harsh Media, Fan Backlash Following Recent Comments
Meghan Trainor is not likely to be elected as a modern-day role model for young women anytime soon, according to several media reports.
That revelation stems from comments Meghan Trainor made in a recent Billboard cover story about her likelihood to vote in the upcoming presidential election. In the article, Trainor explained she was well aware of several hot-topic issues and took stances on subjects such as gun control and LGBT rights. However, Meghan noted that she wasn’t closely monitoring the election, nor was she likely to vote this November.
“I should be way more aware, and if it was [Clinton] or Trump, I’d definitely vote for her. But I’ve never voted and I don’t have any desire to.”

The “desire” to vote has been the subject of most of the harsh criticisms being levied against Meghan Trainor. The Huffington Post opined that the “All About That Bass” singer was a dire representation of what a role model should be to young, adoring fans. Entertainment writer Cole Delbyck criticizes Meghan for not using the podium being yielded to her by her fame.
“If Trainor is meant to represent a new wave of the American pop star ? inclusive, body-positive, self-made etc. ? then the future is looking bleak. As the profile makes a point of noting, Trainor is ‘an approachable role model for girls,’ and yet how does she uses her platform? Telling fans that ignoring the political process is a totally OK option.”
Fusion also took a similar harsh stance on comments made by Meghan Trainor. The Fusion article called out multiple answers Meghan Trainor gave the interviewer as both inconsistent and frustrating to her fans.
“Meghan Trainor has half a dozen straight-banger pop songs and no self-awareness whatsoever. Nowhere is this clearer than in her recent cover feature in Billboard Magazine, where she made several embarrassing and truly tone-deaf fumbles. Despite having a ginormous platform and several people to manage her, Meghan Trainor continues to say things that show she either has an extreme lack of perceptiveness or she has the privilege of never listening.”
Refinery29 took a tactful approach to examine the backlash Meghan Trainor received over her voting comments as the article explained several reasons her fans and followers should vote this November.
“Here at Refinery29, we think it’s important to make your voice heard at the polls,” the article noted. “Here are just some of the reasons why exercising your right to vote this coming November is so important.”
Fans were also critical of Meghan Trainor after her voting comments were published in the Billboard cover story. Many individuals took to Twitter to voice their displeasure with Meghan over her dispassionate attitude toward elections in general.

While the voting comments have drawn the most ire from fans, other comments by Meghan Trainor have also been targeted. Known primarily for her normal body structure that features several curves, Meghan Trainor has been a role model for women who see themselves in her image. Despite that, Meghan remains uncommitted in using her voice to shape the conversation about body shapes, Trainor explains.
“I don’t really have a choice. It’s not like I’m trying to go out there and be a famous person who’s all about being a role model for curves. I mean, if it’s helping other people, then that’s amazing and I will be that role model.”
Meghan Trainor also shared details about what qualities she seeks in a man during the Billboard interview. However, most fans had already been appraised of her criteria thanks to another interview she conducted earlier in the year, according to a previous report by the Inquisitr.
