Santa Cruz County Wildfire Grows To Over 4,000 Acres

Santa Cruz, CA (AHN) – Firefighters continue to battle the wildfire in Santa Cruz county, which has razed 4,000 acres and continues to grow.
The county has declared a local emergency, and more than 2,400 people have been evacuated from Bonny Doon and Swanton. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said 676 personnel using 120 engines are working to contain the blaze, which began on Wednesday.
Hundreds of structures have been threatened, including 250 residences and 25 businesses in Davenport, but only two outbuildings have been reported destroyed. Costs of the fire so fire are at $ 750,000.
Several roads have been closed, including Last Chance, Mill Creek, Swanton, Swanton View and Rancho Del Oso.
Authorities have set up an evacuation center at the Vintage Church at Highway 1 and Mission. A large animal evacuation center has been established at the Watsonville fairgrounds, while another much smaller one is operating at 7th and Rodriguez.
