Donald Glover, the multi-talented comedian who’s known for his role as Troy on NBC’s “Community” is said to be developing and starring in a new semi-autobiographical comedy series for NBC. Glover, who has also gained a cult following in the rap community under the moniker of Childish Gambino, will be developing a sitcom for NBC after “Community” runs its course. Community is going into its fourth season and is expected to come to a close this year. To close the sitcom gap once “The Office” and “Community” go off the air, NBC is looking to keep Donald and utilize his writing talents.

The new series is said to be a semi autobiographical account of Donald’s life. Glover has had a very culturally diverse life, growing up in Stone Mountain, Georgia, Glover was raised as a Jehovah Witness and felt like an outsider at school being the only African American kid amongst the group of students. In addition his parents also ran a foster program within the home, and Glover grew up with many extended siblings. It is not yet known in what capacity Glover will feature his childhood in the new series, but either way NBC thinks it will be good enough to commit to the pilot episode.

About his rise to fame and people’s perceptions, Donald tweeted back in May:

“I can’t sit down and talk to everyone about my beliefs, views, and intentions. I honestly would if I could. Also see a lot of white peeps coming to the ‘defense’ of black peeps because they think I don’t like black people or myself, I guess? I really don’t get that. I don’t like that.”

This isn’t the first time that Glover has collaborated with NBC. While the actor was still attending classes in NYU he was also writing for Tina Fey’s “30 Rock,” while simultaneously uploading sketch comedies on Youtube with Derrick Comedy, a troupe he created while studying at UCB, New York’s sketch/improv school started by SNL alum Amy Poehler.
