Drew Barrymore Files For Divorce, Cleaning Out Her Closet To Help Charity

Unfortunately, it’s official! According to a recent Us Weekly report, Drew Barrymore filed for divorce from her estranged husband Will Kopelman. The official paperwork was filed in the Manhattan Supreme Court on July 15.

Apparently, the documents indicate it will not be a messy divorce. In fact, it will be uncontested. Barrymore and Kopelman have the well-being of their two young daughters to think about, which might be the reason they want to get it over as quickly as possible. Olive is three-years-old. Frankie is two-years-old.

Last April, when the couple officially split, they released this joint statement. It’s easy to see how much they love their children.

“Sadly our family is separating legally, although we do not feel this takes away from us being a family. Divorce might make one feel like a failure, but eventually you start to find grace in the idea that life goes on. Our children are our universe and we look forward to living the rest of our lives with them as the first priority.”

For several years prior to Drew and Will’s June 2012 wedding, they considered themselves great friends. Barrymore started dating the art consultant in February 2011. They separated in April 2016 after four years of marriage.

E! Online recently told readers that the popular actress has done all she can to move forward with her life in the most positive way possible. A source close to the couple told the magazine that the split was not the result of an overnight decision. It was a “slow burn,” which gave them quite some time to adjust.

Like scores of other women who go through the trauma of divorce, Barrymore admits to feeling like a failure. When she appeared on Chelsea last May, she admitted how she felt to show host Chelsea Handler.

“When you break up with somebody, you’re like, ‘Yeah, that didn’t work,’ [but] when you get divorced you’re like, ‘I’m the biggest failure. This is the biggest failure. It’s so shameful and hard to actually go through that, even privately.”

This is Drew Barrymore’s third marriage. In 1995, she married Jeremy Thomas. They were together for less than a year. Then, in 2001, she tied the knot with actor and comedian Tom Green. That marriage ended in October 2002.

In other recent Drew Barrymore news, according to Woman’s Wear Daily, she took time out to help her buddy Gwyneth Palthow raise money for DonersChoose. How? She donated some of her wardrobe essentials to Goop.com’s annual celebrity closet sale.

Proceeds from the sale benefit the non-profit mentioned above by allowing public-school teachers to crowdsource funds for their classrooms from the public. Other actresses who took part in the fundraiser include Anne Hathaway and Lena Dunham.

According to Paltrow, the majority of the donated goods were given to the celebrities as gifts from various red-carpet events. Although, some items were personal purchases. Barrymore donated a blue leather Phantom tote from Celine, an ALC sweater, and a pair of black flats with bows from Tory Burch.

When asked about the fundraising event, Gwyneth told WWD that everyone looks forward to the annual charity closet event, which raises money for American children in need. She went on to say that one of the perks of being in the public eye is being able to afford expensive clothing. To be able to turn around and transform some of that wardrobe into charity dollars is even better.
