Imagine if a dangerous murder suspect fled a packed courtroom, changed his clothes, and left behind the prison jumpsuit and shackles, and now, is nowhere to be found. That is exactly what happened in Broward County Courthouse in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Murder suspect, Dayonte Resiles caused quite a stir on Friday when he vanished from the courtroom after two unarmed bailiffs were nearby the dangerous 22-year-old, reported Inside Edition. The suspect is facing charges of stabbing a woman to death two years ago. On Saturday morning, the police explained that he is still on the run and considered “armed and dangerous.”

His lawyer, H. Dohn Williams, Jr. urged him to turn himself into the authorities. His attorney claims that he had not heard from Resiles since just before he escaped from the courtroom.

“He should turn himself in. I don’t want him or anyone else to get hurt. I was shocked after hearing about my client’s escape. This is totally out of character, and I am urging him now to turn himself in as soon as possible”

Resiles had been taken to the Broward County Courthouse for a pre-trial appearance on Friday morning. Once inside the courtroom, he was guarded by two unarmed guards and somehow he was able to break away and escape the room. The two guards were also responsible for several other inmates, and obviously not paying close enough attention to Dayonte.

Surveillance video shows Resiles racing down the hallway before exiting out a side door around 9:35 a.m. The video shows his striped jumpsuit and handcuffs left behind on the floor.

“We believe he defeated the perimeter before it even got in place. We believe he exited through the north end of the courthouse.”

The one detail the authorities cannot figure out is how he was able to get out of his shackles and handcuffs. He seemed to get out of them quickly. The speculation is that he had a key for them, or if they malfunctioned during the transport to the courthouse.

The Broward County prosecutor told WSVN that a woman inside the courtroom stood up and made “quite a bit of noise” just minutes before he disappeared from the courtroom

“He was shackled appropriately as far as wearing a waist shackle. Whether or not it was secure, we’ll find out as we investigate.”

Immediately following the inmates escape, the courthouse was evacuated. The police brought helicopters and dogs to try to locate the escaped prisoner faster. The authorities explained that they would leave no “stone unturned” and will do whatever it takes to bring him back into custody, unharmed so he can answer to the charges against him.

The murder suspect was accused of first-degree murder of a 59-year-old, married mother of two named Jill Su. She was found dead inside her home. Apparently, Resiles forced his way into her home with the intent to burglarize it, and Su put up a fight which led to her murder.

Dayonte is facing the death penalty if convicted of the charges. The 22-year-old father entered a plea of “not guilty.” Following his escape on Friday, the police stood guarding Su’s family residence in case he decides to show up at her home again.

Resiles’ lawyer said he was shocked by his client’s behavior. He explained he was soft-spoken and didn’t seem like the type to be violent or escape from custody.

Dayonte Resiles is believed to be wearing a white t-shirt (with no design) and black shorts. If you see him, the police urge you to call 9-1-1 immediately and ask that you don’t talk to him. He could be armed and dangerous. Broward County issued an award of $20K if your tip leads to the apprehension of the suspect.
