Gayle King Posts Weight Gain On Instagram: At 159 Pounds, King Praises Weight Watchers

When Gayle King and Oprah Winfrey first made the public aware that they were both using Weight Watchers to lose weight, it became a competition of sorts between the best friends. As reported by the Inquisitr, Oprah lost 26 pounds initially on Weight Watchers, while Gayle at first lost only seven pounds in the first six weeks that King was on the plan.

Either way, King stuck with her Weight Watchers eating plan and admitted on Instagram that her weight had crept from 166 pounds up to 167.5 pounds. Now Gayle is admitting once more that her weight has slowly crept up a bit again on Instagram. The below photo from King’s Instagram shows a weight of 158.6 pounds as compared to 159.4 pounds, proving that while Gayle’s weight had gone down previously nearly 10 pounds since her earlier weight update, King found her weight fluctuating once more.

Gayle surmised that her weight gain meant she had choices to make. King compared the fruit she chose to eat the previous day — which contained zero Weight Watchers points — to the coconut cake that Gayle chose to eat on Saturday, July 16. That coconut cake was worth a whopping 11 points, according to Weight Watchers — so while Gayle praised the flexibility of the program, it isn’t known how that cake would impact her weight.

After all, as reported by People, it was mainly Alexander Skarsgard’s diet and weightlifting regimen that helped the actor get into amazing shape for his recent role as Tarzan. Alexander wasn’t chowing down on cake. Instead, he gave up foods containing sugar, dairy, wheat, gluten, and drank no alcohol for six months. He joked that his chef had to come up with interesting ways to cook chicken without using butter and instead used things like lemon juice to try and make the chicken recipes interesting. Alexander did eat six meals per day and worked out twice per day during that time.

While Alexander’s co-star, Margot Robbie, didn’t have to go on a strict diet, reports People, Skarsgard was so delighted to finally just get to eat an apple that he kissed it. Whereas Weight Watchers might assign zero points to fruits, others who follow strict fitness diets when preparing for bodybuilding competitions oftentimes give up fruit because of the natural sugars they contain — fructose that could lead to weight gain.

Skarsgard praised being able to finally indulge in carbs once filming was over.

King, however, praises the flexibility of Weight Watchers, since Gayle isn’t preparing for some demanding movie role where she’d need a similar set of eight-pack abs.

Meanwhile, Oprah previously posted the following photo on her Instagram account, which praised the Weight Watchers points system for helping keep her good and bad cholesterol in check. Winfrey posted a selfie with a doctor from the Cleveland Clinic Hospital, calling her recent health report the best one she’d ever received.

Meanwhile, King is getting lots of feedback on social media about her dilemma over the coconut cake and slight weight gain. A sample of those comments to Gayle can be seen below.

“Ignore that cake Gayle!”

“Go for it! Extra 1/2 hour on treadmill.”

“That cake… wow… it looks worth a 5 mile walk to have a slice.

“Two words for you…intermittent fasting.”

“Water retention.”

“Back to basics: Stay between 155 and 158. You look healthy and fit you can do it try a mini weekend boot camp.”

“No…you’ve worked so hard…fight it!”

“Coconut cake will do you in every time.”
