‘Destiny: Rise Of Iron’ News: Bungie Wants To Expand On The Game’s Story — Will We See More Than Grimoire Cards?

Bungie is looking to make Destiny bigger in terms of storytelling, hopefully with more than Grimoire cards.

Destiny tells the story of the Guardians, a skilled band of beings that remain the world’s only hope to survive against the onslaught of alien forces. Players engage in raids, strikes, and other activities that usually lead up to a boss of some sort that completes that current portion of the game. The only problem is that the story originally fell flat because of how it was executed.

It goes without saying that Destiny is the type of game that thrives on story. You’re the last line of defense against hordes of monsters, you’ve been charged with bringing light into a world of darkness, and you’ve got a handy companion to crack jokes and decode things. What could be more fun than reading the lore from cards that you can’t access in-game? Any and everything. And that’s what Bungie is hoping to improve on.

In a report by Gamingbolt, Bungie talks about how they plan on evolving the storytelling in Destiny. Director Scott Taylor weighed in on Bungie’s desire to focus on cinematic story content. Compared to having to access Bungie’s website to read the Grimoire card content, it’ll certainly be a step in the right direction.

“That’s another thing we didn’t have in House of Wolves,” Taylor said. “We had the starmap and the CG piece. In this, we have all new in-game cinematics, we’re telling a story that we think is really going to help expand the world of Destiny for players and tell them about the Iron Lords and what happened to them and why we’re doing the Iron Banner. Saladin’s been in the game since the beta, standing there, training guardians for something, and now we’re going to kind of pay that off and see what we’ve been training for.”

Taylor went on, specifically in regards to Destiny and the time that will have passed as a result of the new expansion. After all, Destiny 2 is an inevitable experience.

“We’re really focused on that narrative and that story telling those things, and you’re going to learn a lot about Saladin and find out why he is the way he is, where he came from, what his mission is, and how that affects the player in the world. We’re also really focused on doing something like (points to Rise of Iron poster) you can see the wall has been torn down, so time has passed. We’re going to be playing with the fact that this space has changed and how does that feel, and we want to use all those things to tell an amazing story. We’re really excited about that aspect of it and continuing to evolve our storytelling.”

Of course, the experience with Destiny won’t be complete without new gear to be obtained by the Hunter, Warlock, and Titan classes. In a report by Tech Times, players got a sneak peek at the new Hunter class gear. The Hunter class is considered among the greater choices for player versus player action, which will mean that Bungie is going to take a close look at how the class plays overall.

If nothing else is certain, it’s refreshing to know that Bungie has listened to player feedback in regards to how the story of Destiny is being told. Additionally, it’s almost a guarantee that Destiny 2 will be introduced in part by the new Rise of Iron expansion.

Rise of Iron is set to drop on September 20 of this year.
