Trace Adkins Performs Drunk At Charity Show, Fans React To Singer’s Sad Setback

Trace Adkins reportedly performed a charity show while drunk, and his fans are both angry and concerned. Video of the performance obtained by TMZ shows Adkins mumbling his way through a nearly unrecognizable version of his hit song “One Hot Mama” while slumped over a chair during a fundraiser for St. Jude’s Hospital in Seaside Heights, New Jersey. You can see the video below.

Adkins’ performance was so bad that many fans left the show before he could finish his short set. Reps for Trace Adkins have not commented on the drunken performance, but the 54-year-old country crooner has agreed to donate his large appearance fee to the charity, according to the New York Daily News.

Trace Adkins was the headliner for the Rockin’ Country Thunder 106 Guys with Guitars Under the Stars concert. The charity show, which had about 5,000 attendees, was organized by the radio station to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The radio station’s program director Chris VanZant addressed Trace Adkins’ drunken performance on Facebook, asking fans to pray for the struggling singer.

“Apparently, we have one of our country music family who needs our love, support, and understanding. I hope you’ll take a moment and send a positive thought, support, and prayer,” Van Zant wrote in a message about the event.

Fan reaction to Trace Adkins’ drunk performance was mixed. Some fans laughed it off, while others were angry that they spent money on the show. But the majority of Trace Adkins fans expressed concern over the fact that the singer has relapsed.

Trace Adkins has had a long struggle with alcohol. In 2001, Trace checked into a 28-day rehab after an intervention from his family, and in 2014 he went back to rehab after he got into a drunken brawl with a Trace Adkins impersonator on a cruise ship.

According to People, Trace Adkins also talked candidly about his alcoholism in a 2009 Great American Country special.

“I was getting to the point where I was poisoning myself [by drinking so much],” Trace said at the time. “I wish for anybody out there to never have to go through one of those intervention things where you sit down there and people start telling you what you’re doing to them. You’re so weak that it’s come to this. Man, I hated myself at that moment.”

Adkins also detailed his past struggles with alcohol in his 2007 autobiography, A Personal Stand: Observations and Opinions from a Freethinking Roughneck.

According to Country Weekly, Trace Adkins was 12 years sober before he fell off the wagon at the Country Cruising cruise to Jamaica in 2014. A statement by his rep at the time revealed that Trace’s cruise performances would be canceled because he had “entered a treatment facility after a setback in his battle with alcoholism.” Adkins’ rep revealed that the singer was ready to face his issues head-on.

Trace Adkins is one of the most charity-minded singers in the business, so it’s no surprise that he agreed to perform at the Thunder 106 charity show. Trace is also a big supporter of the American Red Cross, which is the charity he played for when he was a contestant on All-Star Celebrity Apprentice. Adkins won $1.7 million for the charity in 2013.

Trace Adkins worked as a pipe-fitter on an offshore drilling rig before he switched gears in the mid-’90s and became a country music star. Trace is known for his hits “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk,” “Songs About Me,” and “You’re Gonna Miss This.”

Trace Adkins and his wife Ronda Adkins ended their 16-year marriage in 2014. Adkins is also father to five daughters.
