In a series of Twitter posts by the game’s official account during the panel event at EVO 2016, tons of interesting Killer Instinct updates were provided. One of the Twitter updates noted that a new character is set to be revealed today, July 16.

According to Polygon, the character unveiling will happen after Killer Instinct’s finals event at EVO 2016, where the biggest fighting game tournaments are being held. There’s no clue mentioned as to the identity of the last and eighth character arriving in the game, but to be the first ones to catch this KI update, fans can tune in on Twitch during the event’s Top 8 scheduled at 6 p.m. PDT/9 p.m. EDT, Event Hubs specified. EVO 2016 began yesterday, July 15, and is set to run until July 17 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In addition to this new character, a plethora of Killer Instinct news and updates have been recently shared. According to Killer Instinct Central, the video game’s Definitive Edition is now set for a September 20 release. This forthcoming physical edition of the game will include all the 26 fighters from Killer Instinct Season 1, 2 and 3. This means that the remastered cast will be part of the bundle, as well as original KI fighters like ARIA and Hisako. Special guests like Halo’s Arbiter and Gears of War’s General RAAM can also be expected from the special edition, Xbox Wire specified.

Killer Instinct: Definitive Edition will also bring in all the 20 stages made for the game and they come with lighting changes and visual upgrades. There is also going to be an interactive universe map. Furthermore, fans who will purchase this Xbox One-exclusive edition should also find a number of special features such as all the KI songs, all the character trailers as well as concept artworks that haven’t been shown publicly yet.

Also part of the Killer Instinct Definitive Edition is the Classic Arcade KI games and behind-the-scenes videos, among others. Those who will purchase it in brick-and-mortar retail stores will also get an Original Soundtrack CD and a special character skin Gold Gargos as bonuses.

Killer Instinct: Definitive Edition will be available via retail stores and through Xbox Store for $40. It is currently open for pre-order.

As for other news and updates on Killer Instinct, the panel highlights at EVO 2016 spilled the beans that the single-player mode called Shadow Lords will also be released on September 20, the same time as KI: Definitive Edition’s released on Xbox One. Ultra Combo described Shadow Lords as “part ladder, part arcade mode, part story mode, and part roguelike, all rolled up into one unique experience.” In this solo mode, gamers’ main goal is “is to beat Gargos and his forces before he takes over the world.” KI’s Shadow Lords will require internet connection as they form a team of fighters to defeat Gargos.

The recent KI updates also announced that there’s going to be a new multiplayer mode for the game, and it is scheduled to arrive later this year. Polygon explained the connection of Shadow Lords to the new multiplayer mode.

“Power-ups from Shadow Lords will transfer over to the unnamed new multiplayer mode, and Iron Galaxy expects that the system will effectively “break the game” and upset the balance of competitive play.”

New details about Killer Instinct Ultra Tour were provided as well in the series of updates and news shared during the game’s EVO 2016 panel.

“There will be $100,000 up for grabs throughout the tournament circuit, and a $50,000 pot will be split for the Killer Instinct EVO winners this weekend,” Event Hubs detailed. “Other opportunities to win the prize money will arise at KI World Cup events and Ultra Tour online matches.”

Killer Instinct is a series of fighting video games originally created by Rare. KI Season 3, the latest entry in the series, was developed by Iron Galaxy and hit the shelves March 2016
