‘Ghostbusters’ For Xbox One, PS4 & PC A ‘Hastily Made Mess,’ More Reviews Inside

In celebration of the opening of the all-female movie reboot, a new Ghostbusters video game for Xbox One, PS4 and Windows PC was launched. The reviews for the game are in and unfortunately, they are one in telling that it is abysmal.

For instance, a review made by Eric Weiss of Dork Shelf described the new Ghostbusters video game for Xbox One, PS4 and PC as a “hastily made mess” which “doesn’t have anything to do with the movie that inspired it, offering a different plot and an entirely new team of Ghostbusters that the studio didn’t even bother to name.”

Weiss also described the game’s price tag as “revolting.” Currently available for a whopping $50 USD, the game seems to be overpriced since the same amount could already give avid gamers their own copy of the award-winning Doom or other A-list and critically-acclaimed video game titles.

Ghostbusters, released for PC and the latest consoles from Sony and Microsoft, is a third-person action role-playing video game published by Activision. According to a press release posted on Gamasutra, it features both a single-player campaign as well as a local couch co-op multiplayer game mode, which allows up to four players. The description for the game further read as follows.

“Taking place after the events of the film, players command a squad of rookie ghostbusters through Manhattan’s most haunted environments, discovering hidden collectibles and ridding the city of rogue spirits. There are four distinct heroes to choose from and each character can be upgraded with new gear and abilities throughout the adventure.”

A review from PlayStation Lifestyle noted that the Ghostbuster’s gameplay is “boring” and it also features “some of the worst level design.” Describing the game levels, Tyler Treese said that they are “gigantic sprawling labyrinths that don’t offer the player any sense of direction (although players can hold down the circle button in order to know where to go).” Furthermore, each room in the game looks similar and even more disappointingly, “there isn’t enough interesting content to see for five minutes, let alone the 30 these levels last.”

Chris Dunlap from Gaming Age described the four new characters of the PC, PS4, Xbox One game as “completely annoying” that have “cheesy one-liners and slapstick right out of the gate before you even start playing.” Even though the game tried to make the unnamed characters distinct from each other, they only ended up “being annoying.” Moreover, the story for the Ghostbusters video game, according to Dunlap, is “forgettable.”

Even the trailer for the PS4, Xbox One and PC video game was not helpful. ScreenCrush shared that it “feels like a perfunctory afterthought — as if Sony suddenly snapped awake one morning and thought, ‘Oh, right, we should probably do that.'”

For fans looking for a positive note about the 2016 Ghostbusters for Xbox One, PS4 and PC, Polygon was able to cite one and that is Slimer’s presence in the game. Even though it is a very functional game, as noted by Gaming Age, Ghostbuster’s“positive moments are overshadowed by countless annoyances.”

Despite the number of negative reviews provided by different publications, fans who are still interested in trying out and experiencing the new Ghostbusters video game for PS4, PC and Xbox One can opt to purchase the Ghostbusters Bundle. This collection comes with the video game itself and DLC including four Ghostbuster outfits. There also a bonus trap and a special dashboard theme inspired by the Ghostbusters video game. The game bundle is available in Europe for the PS4 via the PlayStation Network. Xbox One’s version is available worldwide through the Xbox Game Store.

The PS4, Xbox One and PC video game released as a tie-in for Ghostbuster’s movie launch came alongside another game, this one available only for mobile devices. Ghostbusters: Slime City is available as a free download via Google Play, Apple App Store and Amazon.
