Jumping Jack Flash Does It Again: Mick Jagger Expecting Baby #8

At an age when most men are content to dandle great-grand kids on their knee, Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger may be changing diapers and singing lullabies. Okay, maybe the wigglier half of the Glimmer Twins will hand the infant to a nanny to manage the smelly stuff, but the fact remains that the legendary rock ‘n’ roller is about to become a daddy again, and he’ll be 73 years old when it happens.

An unidentified Rolling Stones spokesman broke the news of Jagger’s impending paternity in The Sun last night. According to the source, Mick met American ballerina and mom-to-be Melanie Hamrick at a Rolling Stones concert in February 2014 and partnered with her later that year.

The brunette ballerina, who danced in American Ballet Theater productions that include Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, and Sleeping Beauty, reached out to comfort Mick after his long-term partner, L’Wren Scott, hanged herself at age 49 in her Manhattan apartment while the band was on tour. Apparently, Melanie Hamrick comforted the grieving rocker very well. She is currently three months pregnant with their first child.

Melanie’s maternity brings the curtain down on a very successful dancing career. According to her American Ballet Theater bio, the Williamsburg-born Hamrick took her first ballet class at the Eastern Virginia School of the Performing Arts. After that, she attended the Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington, D.C. under the tutelage of Adrienne Dellas, Nikolai Morozov, Mme. Morkovina, and Mme. Sizova. Hamrick joined the American Ballet Theatre Studio Company in September 2003 and became a full-fledged member of the corps de ballet in April 2004.

Although the expectant parents have been a romantic couple for two years, the twosome shows no intention to set up house and raise the baby together. Melanie, who called off her engagement to the Cuban classical dancer, José Manuel Carreño, around the time she met Mick Jagger, will probably move to Los Angeles where Mick will pay the bills but not reside full-time.

The Telegraph reports a source close to Jagger spoke about Melanie’s future living arrangements.

“The plan is for Melanie to move out of New York and be based in LA, where Mick spends a lot of time, or Connecticut where she knows people. In reality Melanie was coming toward the end of her career as a ballet dancer but has now had to give it up even earlier than planned.”

The same source also said that Mick and Melanie share an amicable, albeit offbeat relationship.

“Mick’s relationship with Melanie works for both of them. Melanie is very American and doesn’t want to move to London, even though they’ve been seeing each other regularly over a long period of time now. Mick likes the arrangement they have and doesn’t want to be in another formal relationship. But the most important thing is how much he loves his children.”

Vanity Fair describes Jagger’s progeny as comprising seven kids (so far) with four different women. Jagger became a dad for the first time when American fashion model Marsha Hunt gave birth to daughter Karis on November 4, 1970.

Hunt claims and most agree that Jagger wrote “Brown Sugar” to honor the mother of his first child.

Bianca De Macias Jagger, Mick’s only legal wife, delivered daughter Jade Sheena Jezebel less than one year after Karis’ birth on October 21, 1971.

When Mick’s first two kids were teenagers, he began another brood with Texas-born fashion model, Jerry Hall. Over the course of their 12-year relationship, the couple produced two daughters, Elizabeth Scarlett and Georgia May, as well as two sons, James Leroy Augustin and Gabriel Luke Beauregard. Mick and Jerry married in Bali, Indonesia in 1990, but their union was declared null and void in London in 1999, the same year that Brazilian TV hostess Luciana Giminez bore Jagger’s third son, Lucas Maurice Morad. Prior to yesterday’s announcement of the soon-to-be-here baby, Giminez told The Sun that Mick Jagger is a “wonderful dad” who is “very wise and passionate about his kids.”

The prolific Mick has five grandchildren and recently became a great-grandfather when Jade’s daughter Assisi gave birth to a baby daughter in May 2014. Vanity Fair notes that Jagger baby #8 will be Melanie Hamrick’s first.
