Lauren Graham?? Retiring After ‘Gilmore Girls’ Reboot?

Actress Lauren Graham?? is not only reprising her role of Lorelai Gilmore in the Gilmore Girls reboot for Netflix, but the actress also suggests that this could be the perfect way to end her acting career.

Following the announcements of the 68th Annual Primetime Emmy Award nominations, with Black-ish star Anthony Anderson, Lauren Graham told People just how much it meant to her to return to Stars Hollow after nearly a decade.

“I relished it, and I’m ruined for life because there’s no more perfect fit I feel like for me than that writing and that show,” Lauren said. “I’m so glad I got to do it again. I just can’t even explain it. It was everything I wanted it to be and more.”

In fact, it was so great that the 49-year-old actress told ET that “If I could retire, I would just leave it here.”

Lauren Graham was extremely happy to confirm the news of the Gilmore Girls revival way back in January, sending out a tweet to all of her followers. Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino gets to end the series the way she always wanted to.

Along with Graham, Alexis Bledel is returning to reprise her role of Rory Gilmore. Yanic Truesdale, Scott Patterson and Kelly Bishop are also returning for the Netflix revival. It doesn’t sound like the dynamics of the relationships on set have changed very much since Gilmore Girls was on The CW.

“Just like the show, our dynamic has always been more like friends than mother and daughter,” Graham said. “We are closer in age than, like, the kids who played my kids on Parenthood!”

Gilmore Girls ran for seven seasons, from 2000 to 2007 and accumulated 150 episodes. Netflix’s Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life is going to be written in a miniseries format and it will consist of four 90-minute episodes. Each episode will take place in a different season, spanning through spring, summer, winter and fall.

Bledel and Graham continue to have a great relationship both on and off camera.

“I have so much respect for her as an actor and a person and a mom,” added Graham. “And similar to the old show, we didn’t see a lot of baby around because we had long scenes to do. So I was just proud of how she kind of has handled her personal life. She’s very private. We were both kind of in different places then, and we’re both more settled down now. So that was kind of cool, to reconnect.”

For a while, Sherman-Palladino was not sure if they would be able to get Ghostbusters star Melissa McCarthy to return for the reboot as Sookie St. James. At first, the actress wasn’t confirmed to be returning and it was mainly due to her hectic schedule starring in blockbuster films. But thankfully, McCarthy was able to be a part of the revival.

Lauren Graham admitted that McCarthy being part of the Netflix reboot was extremely important for her and had it not happened, the experience would not as been as gratifying. Of course, she says that McCarthy’s scenes were all truly great. Melissa herself is excited about the revival and the idea of getting a redo at the ending.

Being on set again all these years later, Lauren Graham sort of related the whole experience to going back to college. The actress feels that she was ready to return to these characters and the world they inhabit. Will she actually be retiring from acting after this? That remains to be seen.
