Dog Kills 4 Cobras While Guarding House — Doberman Sacrifices Life To Save Master’s Family From Venomous Snakes In India
A dog bravely fought off four mountain cobras while defending his master’s family. The Doberman reportedly tore the deadly snakes apart, but he later succumbed to the multiple snakebites he sustained.
While the battle lasted for a couple of hours, the dog managed to kill all of the snakes. Unfortunately, right after winning the battle with the snakes, the dog collapsed due to the amount of venom that was injected into his body during the multiple snakebites he received while fighting the reptiles. After the dog’s death, the brave canine was carried off like a family member, and last rites were performed by his family and neighbors.

The face-off occurred earlier this week during the currently ongoing monsoon season. The dog’s family resides in Sebekapur village of Gajapati district, 400 kilometers from Bhubaneswar, India. The region experiences moderate to heavy rains during this time of the year. It is common to spot many reptiles and other burrowing creatures because the rains fill these creatures’ nest with water.

Since their homes are waterlogged, the reptiles are forced to get above ground and seek shelter. Moreover, since the tropical region has many predators, the reptiles have to find a safe and secluded place. Unfortunately, rapid urbanization, deforestation, and land reclamation have left little to no open spaces for many animals.

When four such snakes tried to sneak into a house, the Doberman that was guarding the entrance gate confronted them. The dog refused to allow the mountain cobras, who were trying to get to drier ground, enter the premises, reported the Times of India.
What followed was nothing short of a gladiator fight, only this time, it was a single dog against four highly venomous snakes. The dog’s fierce battle with the snakes lasted for a few hours, said the shocked onlookers. Blood could be seen spilling onto the patio as the pet animal and snakes brawled, reported Deccan Chronicle.
While the dog managed to kill all the snakes, he was bitten several times during the fight. A cobra’s venom is one of the deadliest in nature and can easily kill an adult human within minutes. The venom is essentially a powerful neurotoxin that paralyzes the victim, who dies from cardiac failure. A dog, on the other hand, weighs a lot less than a human being and is significantly more vulnerable and fragile. However, despite being bitten several times, the dog didn’t collapse before he had finished off the threat.

The Doberman’s owner, Dibakar Raita, said he had brought the dog home just a few months ago.
Expressing grief over the dog’s death, Raita said, “I’m shocked. He has made the supreme sacrifice for me and my family. I will remember him till our death. I pray God – May his soul rest in peace.”
As the news about the heroic confrontation spread around the town, hundreds of people visited the dog’s house and paid their respects. Local news agencies reported people bringing floral wreaths that were laid on the body of the slain dog. People then held a funeral procession for the fallen canine hero before burying it, reported the Logical Indian.
The town is said to be located on a foothill region, and it is quite common to see wild animals straying into the villages and houses at odd hours. Experts indicate these animals are forced to venture into human settlements looking for food. They add the snakes are not just looking for shelter, but they feast on the rat population that thrives in the underbelly of the town. It looks like these reptiles chose the wrong house.
