2016 Emmy Nominations: How Did AMC’s ‘Walking Dead’ Franchise Fare?

It’s that time of year again when the Emmy nominations are announced. There are certainly plenty of winners and losers, but just how did AMC’s Walking Dead franchise do this year?

The Walking Dead received two nominations; however, its companions series, Fear The Walking Dead, missed out. Also in the Walking Dead franchise, both Talking Dead and the web series Flight 462 received Emmy nods.

While none of the actors involved with The Walking Dead picked up Emmy nominations, the crew behind the scenes received a couple of Emmy nods. The first Emmy nomination is for the “Outstanding Special Visual Effects In A Supporting Role” category. AMC’s The Walking Dead will be up against the following programs: 11.22.63 “The Rabbit Hole” (Hulu), Better Call Saul “Fifi” (AMC), Hannibal “Primavera” (NBC), and Sherlock “The Abominable Bride” (Masterpiece) (PBS).

The second Emmy nomination for The Walking Dead is in the category of “Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup For A Series, Limited Series, Movie Or Special.” Alongside The Walking Dead, the following programs also got nominated: All The Way (HBO), American Horror Story: Hotel (FX Networks), Game Of Thrones “The Door” (HBO), and Penny Dreadful “And Hell Itself My Only Foe” (Showtime).

Both Emmy nominations were for the mid-season finale episode of The Walking Dead entitled “No Way Out”.

AMC’s Talking Dead received an Emmy nomination for the category of “Outstanding Interactive Program.” It will be up against the following nominees: Conan (TBS), Game Of Thrones Main Titles 360 Experience (HBO), Saturday Night Live Interactive Experience (NBC), and The Late Late Show With James Corden (CBS).

While Fear The Walking Dead missed out on any Emmy nominations, the show that was, essentially, the prequel to it, Fear The Walking Dead: Flight 462, received two Emmy nominations. The first is for actress Michelle Ang who played Alex in Flight 462 and then went on to play the same character in Season 2 of Fear The Walking Dead. The category is “Outstanding Actress In A Short Form Comedy Or Drama Series.” Up against Michelle will be Patrika Darbo as Margot Mullen (Acting Dead), Erinn Hayes as Lola Spratt (Children’s Hospital), Janet Varney as Denie Silverman (Everyone’s Crazy But Us), and Tracie Thoms as Gwen (Send Me: an original web series).

The second Emmy nomination for Fear The Walking Dead: Flight 462 is in the category of “Outstanding Short Form Comedy Or Drama Series.” In competition with Flight 462 is Childrens Hospital (Adult Swim), Hack Into Broad City (Comedy Central), Her Story (YouTube), and UnREAL The Auditions (Lifetime).

As yet, AMC has not confirmed the Season 7 premiere date for The Walking Dead, although it is anticipated to be sometime in October of this year after the finale of Season 2 of Fear The Walking Dead. Fans will also be able to get their Walking Dead fix at San Diego Comic Con later this month. The Walking Dead panel will be held Friday, July 22, at 1 p.m. in Hall H.

Season 2 of AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead returns Sunday, August 21, with Episode 8 at 9 p.m. ET. Fans who can’t wait that long can check out the Fear The Walking Dead panel at San Diego Comic Con on Friday, July 22, at 12 p.m. in Hall H.
