Song Hye-kyo Says She Won’t Date ‘Pretty Boys’

South Korean actress Song Hye-kyo is not just a pretty face. She is extremely talented, insightful, and knows what she wants. She says good looks are the last thing she would focus on in a man.

It may be hard to believe, but the Hallyu star who recently stole our hearts in the recently concluded military romance Descendants of the Sun is very much our girl next door. While fans of the K-drama are linking her with her co-star Song Joong-ki, Song Hye-kyo has denied that the rumors are untrue.

Song Hye-kyo may have made many mistakes in the past, particularly in her love life, but the actress is determined she won’t repeat the same follies. Most likely, the actress may never ever date a male co-star unless he is a man of character. She made this clear in an interview years ago.

Song Hye-kyo, who dated G.I Joe fame Lee Byung-hun, was heartbroken after their break-up. The couple started dating in 2003 while filming All In. But their relationship was short-lived. The duo announced their break-up in 2004.

Lee Byung-hun, however, pinned the blame on Song Hye-kyo. He said that while his mother wanted him to marry Song Hye-kyo in the fall of 2004, the actress was not willing and was determined to focus on her work, said a report by Drama Fever.

This romance mishap occurred when Song Hye-kyo was barely 23. At the time, she admitted that it is hard to forget her relationship with Lee Byung-hun. However, Song Hye-kyo also made it clear that she “will never fall for a pretty boy again.”

Looks are not the most important asset now when it comes to love, she said, according to a report by Popular Asians.

“When I was younger, I liked guys who had a good personality and decent looks. However, my perceptions have vastly changed now. With more and more stress from work, at times I really do hope to have someone I can lean upon. It would be good to rely on the man during my most tired moments. The best is if he will listen to my stories when I am stressed,” Song Hye-kyo said.

After her relationship with Lee Byung-heon, Song Hye-kyo started dating her The World That They Live In co-star Hyun Bin in 2009.

Although the shooting ended, the couple continued to keep in touch and gradually got into a relationship. The duo, however, separated in 2011 when Hyun Bin left for mandatory military duty, according to a report by Drama Fever.

Song Hye-kyo and Hyun Bin reportedly drifted apart due to their busy overseas schedules.

Song Hye-kyo has been continuously linked with her Descendants of the Sun co-star Song Joong-ki. However, much to the disappointment of the fans, both have denied that they are professional buddies and are definitely not in a relationship.

Song Joong-ki in an earlier interview said, “I felt really happy to be able to film together with Korea’s most beautiful actress. Everyone thinks it’s because of her outward appearance that Song Hye-kyo became famous, but after working together, I realized her inner heart and personality are also good. Moreover, she has lots of acting experience and I actually did learn a lot from her.”

The respect has been mutual. In an interview with KoreaTimes, Song Hye-kyo appreciated Song Joong-ki and said that he was a well-mannered young man.

“Song Joong-ki is known for his sincerity and manners. The total shooting period for the drama was nearly double that of the other dramas. For the whole six months, Song Joong-ki could have been edgy and lost his temper, but he didn’t. He is younger than me, but I thought I learned many things from him. He did his job perfectly in the drama, and he is such a great person,” said Song Hye-kyo.

Now that Song Hye-kyo has made it clear that she won’t fall for a “pretty boy,” do you think Song Joong-ki stands a chance? Let us know in the comments below.
