NFL Rumors: Green Bay Packers Could Work New Contract With Aaron Rodgers

The Green Bay Packers have the best quarterback in the NFL on their roster, but Aaron Rodgers is not the highest paid quarterback. After seeing the massive contract that Andrew Luck got with the Indianapolis Colts, there is a chance that the Packers will work a new deal with Rodgers.

It will be interesting to see what kind of money Rodgers will be asking for. There is no question that he is worth more than Luck, and will take over being the highest paid quarterback in the league.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk mentioned that the Packers could look to rework Rodgers’ deal and if they do so, it will be a major raise.

Last season was a bit of a down year for Rodgers, although his numbers were still impressive. He completed 60.7 percent of his pass attempts for 3,821 yards, 31 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. Rodgers also picked up 344 yards and a touchdown on the round.

At 32-years-old, Rodgers still has a lot of football left to be played in his career. He likely has at least five or six more seasons left to play at a superstar level. Green Bay would be very wise to get Rodgers locked up now and not worry about his contract status for a long time.

Looking ahead to the 2016 NFL season, the Packers are once again projected to be a top contender for a Super Bowl appearance. Most of that projection has to do with the fact that they have Rodgers. No one ever views the Packers as “out of it” as long as they have the league’s best quarterback under center.

Needless to say, the Packers’ offense should be much more lethal this season than it was last year. Simply adding Jordy Nelson to the field will help Rodgers get back to the MVP numbers that he has put up throughout the majority of his career. Green Bay is also expecting Eddie Lacy to come back strong and help take more pressure off of Rodgers.

Green Bay is not going to have an easy run and Rodgers once again will have a chance to show that he is the league’s best signal caller. They will have to go up against stacked defenses when they face the Seattle Seahawks, Arizona Cardinals and Carolina Panthers. All three of those teams join the Packers as the favorites in the NFC.

More than likely, Rodgers’ contract situation will wait until next offseason. There is a slight chance that the two sides could get something done before the regular season, but those chances are slim at this point.

Expect to see the Packers and Rodgers have an extremely successful season in 2016. He may not be the highest paid quarterback in the league this season, but that will not shake him.

There have not been many quarterbacks like Rodgers throughout the history of the NFL. He is also showing extreme maturity by not being upset about his current contract. Rodgers is focusing on football and will let all the other pieces fall together, which is exactly why the Packers need to get the deal done as soon as the two sides can sit down and hammer out an agreement.

Don’t be surprised if the two sides begin negotiations at some point in the near future. They should come to a new deal at some point soon after the beginning of next offseason, at the very latest. Rodgers will be the NFL’s highest paid quarterback once again.

Do you think the Green Bay Packers should do what it takes to get a new deal done with Aaron Rodgers this offseason? What kind of money do you think he is worth per season? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below!
