Zayn Malik Reveals Who First Told Him To Quit One Direction, And It’s Quite Unexpected

Does Zayn Malik talk to aliens? If a recent interview is any indication, Malik could be ahead of us all when it comes to extraterrestrial communication.

Zayn has established himself as a talented and successful solo artist, but fans and media outlets still can’t stop asking him about his time prior to his solo album Mind of Mine and “Pillowtalk”

Zayn Malik left One Direction more than a year ago, but still the questions about the band keep pouring in. Malik most recently spoke about leaving his 1D band mates in a quirky interview with Glamour magazine, and his answers might surprise some. The interviewer asked Malik when he first thought he might want to leave the band, and here’s his response.

“An alien spoke to me in a dream…”

That’s all. No other details. The manner in which Zayn trails off leaves a lot up to the imagination of fans.

The response leaves room for interpretation, and some are wondering if Malik is simply trolling and trying to say that he’s tired of speaking about One Direction.

Who could blame him? The 23-year-old British R&B artist hasn’t been with the band since March of 2015. In the time since, Malik has made it obvious that he can and will succeed on his own, so why wouldn’t he want to focus his interviews on his current music?

(Never mind the fact that the remaining four members of One Direction went on hiatus earlier this year, and some are questioning whether Harry, Niall, Louis, and Liam will ever reunite, as several of the band members have occupied themselves with other projects.)

Since leaving One Direction, Malik’s relationship with his former band mates has been nothing if not contentious. Zayn has been upfront, open, and honest about his reasons for wanting to leave the boy band after nearly five years with the group. In the time since his departure, Malik has called One Direction’s music “uncool,” according to Fader.

“Would you listen to One Direction at a party with your girl? I wouldn’t. To me, that’s not an insult, that’s me as a 22-year-old man. As much as I was in that band, and I loved everything that we did, that’s not music that I would listen to.”

After the comments, reports indicated that Harry Styles felt “betrayed” by Zayn Malik’s apparent slam. Malik also took to the media to complain about restrictions placed on his appearance while he was with One Direction.

Not all of Zayn’s media interviews are always so serious, though. Take, for instance, the Glamour Q&A. Not only did Gigi Hadid’s boyfriend reveal that he communicates with aliens, but he also joked about his first crush (“Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. They’re the same, right?”) and the first time he felt like an adult. It was “just yesterday,” in case you were wondering.
