‘Game Of Thrones’ Missing Characters: Where Is Gendry?

Game of Thrones Season 6 brought back a few missing characters, but one character’s whereabouts are still unknown. Fans want to know where Gendry is after all this time. The last time he was spotted was back in Season 3.

Caution: there are spoilers for the most recent season towards the end of this article.

Gendry was introduced in Game of Thrones Season 1, when Ned Stark realized that blacksmith’s apprentice was an illegitimate son of King Robert Baratheon. He was saved from King Joffrey’s attack on the illegitimate children in Season 2 by agreeing to join the Night’s Watch and by Ayra Stark telling the King’s Guard that Gendry had already been killed.

Arya and Gendry became friends after this, although Gendry chose to stay with the Brotherhood Without Banners; something Arya didn’t want to see happen. The Brotherhood ended up betraying him to Melisandre, who used Gendry to strengthen Stannis Baratheon. Davros released him from Dragonstone and left him rowing back to Westeros, never to be seen again.

So, where exactly is he? According to The Express, he is still out there somewhere. Game of Thrones showrunners D.B Weiss and David Benioff have confirmed that he is still rowing, which at least means that he isn’t dead yet. It is possible that he will be back in Thrones Season 7, or that his fate will never really be confirmed.

There were some who wondered whether he had drowned at some point. He was only in a rowing boat, with no experience of rowing and no ability to swim. It was entirely possible that he had capsized and drowned. Of course, Game of Thrones fans know that nobody is dead until it is actually seen on the screen. Even then, in some cases the characters aren’t actually dead; just look at the Mountain.

Weiss and Benioff did joke about Gendry’s whereabouts, saying that he is coming up to Florida now. They also commented that his muscles will be growing after four seasons of rowing. He is getting ready for whatever is thrown at him when he lands in Westeros; if he ever gets there.

Gendry isn’t the only character that people have questioned about throughout the series. For the whole of Seasons 4 and 5 there were questions about the whereabouts of Osha and Rickon Stark. The last they were seen was when they left for House Umber when Bran went North of the Wall to take up his destiny.

The two were finally seen again in Thrones Season 6, but they didn’t last long. Osha was quickly killed off by Ramsey Bolton, with Rickon being used as a game to lure Jon Snow forward in the battle. There were plenty of jokes on Twitter surrounding Rickon’s inability to zigzag when he was told to run in the battle.

Benjen Stark has also finally come back, after going missing in Game of Thrones‘s first season. Jon Snow had wanted to ride out to find his uncle, who had gone missing during a ranging party North of the Wall. His horse came back and the others who went with him were found dead. It was revealed this season that he had been stabbed by the White Walker king and was slowly turning into a Wight when the Children saved him. He is now part of the dead but fighting on the side of the living, showing up in time to save nephew Bran Stark, and his companion, Meera Reed.

There are still plenty of other missing characters from Game of Thrones still to come back. While The Hound made a reappearance this season, he wasn’t in the Season 6 finale. Game of Thrones Season 7 may see the reappearance of other characters, like the still-rowing Gendry.
