Jessica Simpson’s baby picture of new daughter Maxwell Drew in a bikini is attracting some criticism after the singer unveiled the photo on Katie Couric’s new talk show.
She was appearing on Katie to talk about motherhood and to show off her new slimmer figure, but many people just ended up talking about the Simpson baby picture instead, NBC’s Today reported.
The picture of the four-month-old in a lacy yellow bikini drew critics almost immediately after the broadcast ended.
“It is very disturbing to see a young baby presented to the world wearing a bikini,” Claude Knights, the director of Kidscape, a British child welfare agency, told the Daily Mail.
“Celebrity choices carry great influence, as can be seen by the manner in which their accessories and behaviors are copied widely. It is to be hoped that parents will understand that ‘baby bikinis’ are totally inappropriate, and that they contribute to the sexualization and commercialization of childhood. We should not be compromising the sanctity of our children’s early years.”
“Dear baby Maxwell: this may be your first embarrassing moment that you’ll end up hating your mother for, but it won’t be the last.”
But others said they didn’t understand the fuss about the Simpson baby picture. One BuzzFeed reader noted that babies often go around in just diapers — or even naked — so it didn’t make sense to fuss about a bikini.
In the interview with Couric, Jessica Simpson also touched on the weight gain that became tabloid fodder during her pregnancy.
Simpson said that she “put on more baby weight than I was planning,” but added, “I have to separate myself from the world’s expectations and really just look inside myself and be healthy with myself. I want to be a phenomenal role model for my child.”

That's so ridiculous. The baby looks cute. Anyone who sexualizes is perverted. On hot days, most babies just wear diapers anyway. My daughter recently sent me a picture of her 2-month old baby with a cute little bikini outfit that she put on her for an outing and she looked adorable. Maxwell looks adorable. People complain about the stupidest things nowadays.

I remember when I could take picture of my babies after there baths with nothing on. now you cant. you can go to jail and lose your kids over a after bath picture. she is cute. I don't have daughters. but I do have 4 boys. I watch my friends daughter. her swimming suit was cute put it was a pain the butt to put her in it. my boys were their swim trunks pretty much all summer. jessica is doing a good job of being a mom. maxi is being feed, changed, diapered, she isn't being abused or negeleted. u can tell she is a happy little baby. people need to shut their big mouths when it comes stuff like this. all babies r cute.

this is ridiculous. my oldest first bathing suit was a nemo bikini. the top was more covering than this babies and it came with shorts but still. but yet women can dress t heir kids up like Julia Roberts when she played a hooker or have their daughter on stage with a fake cigarette and they still get air time. so why not put your efforts there were the mothers were clearly not thinking about their children and instead about winning and living out they child hood fantasies on their children.

Agreed! It is soooo stupid that anyone makes a big deal about that! I had B in a bitini (thats what we call it around here, lol, long story, lol) this summer!! Plus at the beach its a lot easier to change a swim diaper in a two piece than in a one piece on a baby!! People r so hard on jessics simpson, dont know why?
