‘Honey Boo Boo’ Reality Show Receives Mixed Reviews In Family’s Hometown

Although the child known as Honey Boo Boo is earning some strong ratings for TLC, it would seem that not everyone in the family’s hometown is thrilled about the reality television show. According to the Associated Press, residents of McIntyre, Georgia are split in their opinion over the televised antics of June Shannon and her famous brood.

Not surprisingly, the folks at the Wilkinson County Chamber of Commerce aren’t overly pleased with how the show is portraying the town. Since the program has a tendency to focus on the negative aspects of life in McIntyre, president Jonathan Jackson feels the show’s producers should focus on the town’s positive points as well.

“You can’t very well ask and expect a television network to possess tact and taste – unless it makes them a dollar,” he explained to the AP.

Although some residents stated that the family helped put the town on the map, others aren’t too fond of the elements that brought McIntyre to the masses. “I don’t mind it, it’s just that it doesn’t give a good image for the county since it is a small county, and it’s a really family-oriented county, and we are basically, you know, church goers down here, and a lot of the things they do … we don’t agree with it,” Carolyn Snead explained.

For reasons why, precisely, folks in the small Georgia town isn’t overly excited about Honey Boo Boo and her family, one need only investigate the latest episode of her popular TLC reality show. According to the the Daily Mail, the family decides to raise a little money for the child’s wigs, fake teeth, and pageant costumes by starting a lemonade stand.

However, in true Honey Boo Boo fashion, the family took the aforementioned summertime beverage and loaded it with over five pounds of sugar. Those who thought the reality television star’s “Go-Go Juice” — a blend of Mountain Dew and Red Bull — was conducive to bad health are sure to gag at the thought of this lemonade considering the amount of sweetener in just one long gulp.

    I watch it once because I wasnt sure who this kid was beleive it not but its I didn't know. Once I saw 20 mins of the show I wanted to throw up. I feel the show makes a lot 51 A cases and the it should be taken off the air asap.

    What has the country coming to? We are helping to exploit a young child who needs true parental supervision but instead we are actually paying them…I am most disgusted with the network who want to call this entertainment, how appalling they have any viewers…..I guess sadly this is all the networks can find for entertainment.

    I'm watching this so called show for the first time. What a f……….. joke. They're all over weight and talk like ignorant heathens. The "Mom" should go to the Dollar Store & get some glasses. My God, I can just imagine what this is going to do to the little girl when she gets older. Some people will do anything for money. It's hard to believe that people actually watch this show. Wish they weren't from Georgia. Changing the channel now!
