Scarlett Johansson Names Her Favorite Character And Her Secret To Success

News that Scarlett Johansson is the top grossing actress in Hollywood has renewed interest in the actress, offering more opportunities to learn more about her interests and what it is that inspires her about acting.

In the most recent batch of interviews, Scarlett reveals her favorite role and why the named character has been such an enjoyable experience for her, above the many other roles she’s taken on. As she speaks about acting and the direction her career has taken, it becomes clear that Scarlett Johansson actually enjoys her profession, which seems to be a rare sentiment in today’s Hollywood.

Scarlett Johansson Names Her All Time Favorite Role

It may be easy to forget that Scarlett has been acting for over 20 years, especially when one stops to appreciate her enduring beauty, but she’s not new to Hollywood, so being asked to choose her favorite role, as Yahoo Movies reports was done at a recent event, is something of a tall order. Still, Ms. Johansson gave the question due consideration, before listing her Black Widow character as the winner. It’s true that Scarlett holds a special fondness for her Marvel Cinematic Universe character and she was only too happy to explain why her portrayal of Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff tops her list.

“I really like playing Natasha, playing the Black Widow [in Avengers Assemble, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Captain America: Civil War]. It’s been an interesting journey, to take a character and grow it over these years, and peel the layers back and be able to, as you do in life, grow with this person. It’s a character that’s really enigmatic and has an amazing origins story, so there’s a lot for me to play off of,” explains Johansson.

Scarlett has another reason for naming Black Widow as her favorite role. The actress lists actors like Chris Evans, Robert Downey, Jr., and Elizabeth Olsen in pointing out that the Marvel movies allow her the opportunity to work with a large cast of very talented performers.

“It’s not a bad company to be in!”

Ghost In The Shell Star Scarlett Johansson Reveals What She Has Learned After 20 Years As An Actress

While only 32 years old, Scarlett has just recently been awarded the School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s (SAIC) Gene Siskel Film Center Renaissance Award for her extensive acting career, according to Michigan Avenue magazine. It may not be surprising then that Johansson expresses a great joy in working as an actress and in being able to follow a dream with such great success. In fact, Scarlett says her love for acting is vital to that success, revealing that the secret to a rewarding career lies in finding work one loves to do.

“I’m learning more about my job [and my] boundaries—how far I can push them, what makes me comfortable, what makes me uncomfortable,” says Ms. Johansson. “And that curiosity [helps me figure out] how to get better at what I do, how to refine my performance, and how to find my kind of natural rhythm.”

Scarlett adds that exploring her curiosity and pushing her boundaries keeps her feeling inspired. Ms. Johansson says she looks for projects that she feels will challenge her and that means taking on roles that will force her to face the fear of falling flat on her face.

“And challenging myself, and trying to find projects… that I don’t know exactly how to do, but know that I can do them.”

Referring back to her role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Scarlett says she also looks for roles which offer intrigue and opportunities for discovery, which is something she knows fans love as much as the actors. Johansson says it’s fun for everyone to see the pieces come together on film and to discover hidden items from the comic books within the films.
