Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Olympic Edition Release Date Locked In For July 18


The official Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Olympic Edition release date has been announced. Only 2,016 units of the limited edition Rio 2016-inspired smartphone will be available for public release beginning July 18, according to a report on GSM Arena.

Meanwhile, in partnership with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Samsung Electronics, which is regarded as the Worldwide Olympic Partner in the Wireless Communications Equipment category, will provide a total of 12,500 units of the Galaxy S7 Edge Olympic Games Limited Edition and Gear IconX to all the Rio 2016 athletes. This is to help them “enhance their experiences in Rio and communicate with family and friends around the world more conveniently,” Samsung Newsroom reported.

The Gear IconX is Samsung’s latest smartphone accessory. These wireless earbuds offer a new fitness experience to users, making it even more particularly useful for the Olympians. It comes with an in-ear heart rate monitor and a standalone music player. Also, pairing the accessory with the smartphone will also allow users to track fitness updates using the S Health application.

The Olympic-themed Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge was unveiled on July 7 in Sau Paulo, Brazil, in celebration of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games that will be held on August 5 to 21. The description for the special Olympic edition of the Galaxy S7 Edge, posted on Samsung’s official page for Olympics, read as follows.

“The Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Games Edition is a homage to those who make unreasonable progress. From the special black metal frame to the colors of the most frequently used apps, it wears the colors of the Olympic rings inside and out.”

The body designed for the Olympic-theme Samsung smartphone features an embedded “Olympic rings in a special pattern that lights up in five official colors, Express noted. As for the interface’s design, to make it look more personalized for the Olympics event, a special smartphone theme is also created for the upcoming special edition of the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, bringing “the spirit of the Olympic Games to every element of the interface, the official Olympic page on Samsung website noted. Thus, those who will own the Olympic Games Limited Edition smartphone will be able to experience an Olympic-themed wallpaper, icons and details.

In particular, the phone’s interface will highlight the colors of the Olympic Rings – blue, yellow, black, green and red – as they will be used on the home screen as locked screens. The message, contact and dial screens and the notification bar will also use the official Olympic Ring colors.

In addition to the Galaxy S7 Edge Olympic Edition, Samsung, as part of its involvement in the highly anticipated multi-sport event, built interactive Samsung Galaxy Studios that showcase various activities like a 4D virtual reality Olympic Sports experience. There’s also The Rio 2016 App which will offer fans round-the-clock updates on the latest Olympic news. It is available as free download via Samsung Galaxy Apps, Apple Apps Store, Google Play, Windows App Store and certain app stores in China.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Olympic Games Limited Edition units are set for release in select countries only – Brazil, China, South Korean, U.S. and Germany. Sam Mobile reported that Samsung launched a pre-order page for the handset in Germany which allows interested customers to reserve a unit as early as now for €879.
