Zayn Malik Says Aliens Told Him To Ditch One Direction For Solo Career

Last year Zayn Malik stunned the world when he left the uber-famous boy band One Direction to launch a solo career, and thousands of his fans wept with frustration as their world collapsed.

At the time, Malik said he needed the freedom to express himself as an individual, and that he just didn’t feel right being in the boy band and he didn’t like the attention that being famous brought.

His true motivation, however, was aliens.

In a quick-fire interview that appears in Glamour, Malik says he was visited by an alien in a dream during the time he was considering leaving the boy band One Direction.

“An alien spoke to me in a dream.”

It’s not clear if Zayn is being serious or if he’s making some kind of a joke. During the interview Malik was also asked what he liked to do when he is hanging out with his friends, and his response was a bit sarcastic, according to MTV.

“We do this weird thing: we communicate with words.”

The rest of Zayn’s answers appeared to be serious and legitimate. He was asked who his musical inspiration was and he answered Michael Jackson around the time of “Thriller.”

Malik’s alien response is just as good as any other explanation being floated for why the singer suddenly left the hugely popular band One Direction.

Being in such a super famous and hugely popular boy band made Zayn feel very pressured and unable to exist as a private person trying to sort out life in their early 20s, as the singer told Capital FM.

“I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight.”

Traveling all the time with the band and being on the road is very exhausting, and Malik just wanted to go home, the singer told Capital FM.

“I’d like to apologize to the fans if I’ve let anyone down, but I have to do what feels right in my heart.”

Being in a band with four other people makes it difficult for an individual singer to express himself creatively, as RCA chairman/CEO Peter Edge told Billboard.

“When Zayn was in the band, he had all these songs he was writing, and plans to do his own music.”

Whatever the reason for Zayn’s departure, the singer seems much happier on his own than as a member of the band One Direction, as he told Billboard.

“I’m incredibly disciplined. I realized I can push myself through situations I might not necessarily want to do, but can overcome by being in the moment. No matter what, I can smile and do whatever I got to do.”

Maybe Malik’s debut album and his hit song “Pillow Talk” were inspired by space aliens as well; we might never know.

A lot of people seem to be talking about aliens lately.

Last month during a Brexit debate, the president of the European Union told officials he was in communication with alien leaders and they were worried about the future of Europe, according to the Express.

“I have seen, listened and heard many leaders of other planets and they are very worried because they wonder about the course the EU will follow.”

Maybe it’s the space race or the possibility of visiting Mars one day, or maybe it’s some kind of escapism; then again, maybe space aliens really do care about the future of music.

What do you think? Did a space alien really tell Zayn Malik to leave One Direction in a dream?
