Blake Shelton Says He Made This Mistake With Gwen Stefani, Gwen And Blake Agree They’re Meant To Be

Blake Shelton recently admitted that he made a big mistake while celebrating his birthday with Gwen Stefani last month. However, it was not an error that threatened his future with Gwen. In fact, both Gwen and Blake have gushed about how the Shefani love story was written in the stars.

Chelsea Handler interviewed Blake Shelton for the July 7 episode of her new Netflix series Chelsea, and it wasn’t long before the topic of conversation turned to Blake’s relationship with Gwen Stefani. As Taste of Country reports, Blake recounted how Gwen helped him celebrate his 40th birthday on June 18 by accompanying him to Country Jam 2016. He was set to perform at the event, and he asked his girlfriend to grant one of his birthday wishes by surprising the crowd of country music fans with a performance of the No Doubt song “Hella Good.” Gwen obliged, and now Blake regrets letting his girlfriend upstage him.

“I had my band work up one of her songs, ‘Hella Good.’ And I thought, ‘Man, that’d be so cool to have her come out and surprise.’ It’s the worst thing I could have done because all it did was make me look terrible,” Blake said. “Literally 40,000 were jumping up and down. I mean, that’s probably what it’s like at real concerts, but I was like, ‘Whoa. What’s going on?’ People were so excited to see her.”

Blake later tweeted that Gwen’s surprise birthday performance was the “coolest and craziest” thing he’s ever witnessed in his life. As the Inquisitr previously reported, Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton also delighted Shefani fans by performing their duet, “Go Ahead and Break My Heart,” for the Country Jam crowd, and Gwen gave Blake a birthday kiss in front of the delighted concertgoers.

None of these magical moments would have happened if Gwen and Blake hadn’t been at the exact same place in their lives at the exact same time. Blake Shelton started working with Gwen Stefani in 2014 on Season 7 of The Voice, but Blake told Chelsea Handler that he “didn’t really know her that well” back then. It wasn’t until Season 9 of The Voice that the coaches began to bond. They were both going through divorces, and Blake credits Gwen’s revelation about her split from Gavin Rossdale for bringing them together and turning a dark time in their lives into a hopeful, happy one.

“And then, all of the sudden, to find out she’s going through basically the same exact thing at the same time,” Blake said, according to the Huffington Post. “My life turned around, so quickly, too by the way.”

Gwen Stefani said something very similar during her recent Harper’s Bazaar interview, and she also shared a few details about the birth of Shefani. According to Gwen, she and her fellow coaches on The Voice first found out that Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert were getting a divorce during the July 7, 2015 taping of the show. Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale wouldn’t announce their divorce for another month, and Gwen was struggling with keeping the split a secret and having no one to talk to about what she was going through.

“There I was with my big secret, right? And that’s when Blake was like,’Everybody, before we go out there, I want to let everyone know that by the time this airs, I will be divorced.'”

Gwen described hearing Blake’s surprising news as “being handed this gift of a friend who was going through the exact same thing at the exact same time.”

Blake Shelton also told Chelsea Handler that he believes that everything he and Gwen Stefani went through was “meant to happen,” which is a sentiment Gwen agrees with.

“I don’t think it’s an accident that that happened. It saved me,” the “Misery” singer told Refinery 29.

Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani are clearly on the exact same page when it comes to their relationship, so maybe Shefani really is meant to be.
