Framingham, MA – One Massachusetts mom is celebrating back to school with a special “happy dance” in the streets in a video that has gone viral.
Tracy Moutafis started celebrating back to school time with her happy dance to “Celebration” by Kool and the Gang four years ago and decided to continue the tradition because of how fun it was, reports Yahoo! News. Moustafis stated:
“[It was] the first day of school, and I said, ‘I’m going to do something fun.’ I just kept doing it for four years. I had no idea something like this was going to happen.”
Moutafis and her happy dance quickly made her a celebrity in her neighborhood, and, four years later (and thanks to the video going viral on YouTube), the celebratory mom is an internet sensation as well.
The mother of two has been recording her happy dance each year, posting them on YouTube, but it wasn’t until this year that the video became a hit.
While the original only has 10,977 views by itself (uploaded on August 30), it has been featured on other sites, bringing in more views. Tracy was even interviewed on Good Morning America about the video.
So, why exactly does Tracy Moutafis do her happy dance on the first day of school? The Huffington Post notes that, as many parents of kids in school know already, back to school means more time for them (or more time to do errands, at least), causing the commemoration to be a huge sigh of relief for many.
When asked how her boys feel about her dancing in the middle of the street as they ride away on the bus, Tracy responded that they’re not embarrassed at all — although, from the video, it is hard to tell if this is sarcasm or not. Because, well, what kid in their right mind wouldn’t be at least a little mortified at the sight of their mom doing a happy dance in the street on the first day of school?
