Gwen Stefani Says Prayer (And Blake Shelton) Got Her Through Divorce From Gavin Rossdale

Gwen Stefani says her dreams were shattered when she found out her husband of 13 years was cheating on her with their children’s nanny. In a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Stefani said she clearly remembers the day her world came crashing down on her

“February 9. I obviously know the date. It was the beginning of hell,” Gwen said. “Like six, seven, eight months of torture, trying to figure out this big secret.”

Gwen Stefani told the magazine that she had aspired to have a union like her parents did.

“I’ve had such a weird extreme life line,” Gwen revealed. “Amazing parents, they’re having their 50th wedding anniversary… All I wanted my whole life was to have babies, be married, like what my parents have.”

But after that fateful day in February, Gwen Stefani turned to a place that she hadn’t been in a long time.

“What happened was praying,” Stefani revealed. “That’s my childhood, that’s how I was raised. And I think I strayed from that. But you know when it gets that bad, you just get desperate? You’re on your knees. You’re like, ‘What do I do?’ You can’t even go to your parents and ask them what to do.”

Gwen revealed that in the unfair aftermath of her split from Rossdale, she stayed with her good friend, video director Sophie Muller, who she says helped her “through the whole thing.” Gwen also turned to songwriting, before she found out she had another unexpected shoulder to lean on: Her Voice co-star, Blake Shelton.

Stefani told Harper’s that while she was still keeping her “big secret” from the world, Shelton was telling his co-stars that by the time The Voice aired his divorce from Miranda Lambert would be final. Last July, Shelton and his wife of four years announced that their marriage was ending, and one month later, Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale announced their split.

“It was like being handed this gift of a friend who was going through the exact same thing at the exact same time,” Gwen recalled. “And then it was just like everything flipped. It went from horrible to, like, hopeful and, like, ‘Wow, God, you just don’t know what’s gonna happen next.'”

Gwen’s new love has echoed her sentiments about the timing of their romance. According to People, Shelton told talk show host Chelsea Lately that finding out Gwen was going through the same situation as he was changed their relationship very quickly.

“Next thing you know, this person that I kinda knew – I had worked with on the show [but] I didn’t really know her that well, Gwen, that first time,” Shelton said. “Just, ‘Hey, how ya doin’?’ And then to all of a sudden I find out she’s going through basically the same exact same thing, at the same time. And this is how my life turned around – and so quickly, too, by the way. It’s like, ‘Woah.’ All of this has to be meant to happen.”
Shelton added that now that he is with Stefani, he is happier than he has ever been in his entire life.

While Gwen Stefani has a chance at a happily-ever-after with Blake Shelton, her ex-husband Gavin apparently doesn’t approve. A source told E! NewsRossdale doesn’t approve of the close bond Shelton has formed with his three sons, Kingston, Zuma, and Apollo. The source also said if it were up to Gavin, he would work things out with Gwen.

That seems fairly unlikely. Gwen Stefani has moved on in a big way. According to Entertainment Tonight, Gwen recently filed legal documents in a Los Angeles Superior Court to officially drop Rossdale from her last name. Gwen, who has always kept her stage name as Gwen Stefani, legally changed her name to Gwen Stefani Rossdale after marrying the Bush frontman in 2002. But now Gwen is dropping the “Rossdale” for good as she starts her best life with Blake.
