‘Sense8’ Season 2: What We Know So Far

Sense8 is a Netflix original that debuted in 2015. The show follows the story of “sensates,” eight strangers from across the globe who are mentally and emotionally interconnected. At times Season 1 appeared slow or confusing, but by the finale, the story had pulled together and many fans are now desperate to find out more about the sensates. However, it has been more than a year since Sense8 premiered, so when will fans get their second dose? Here’s all the details.

  • Season 2 of Sense8 will premiere on Christmas Day. Make sure you mark your calendar on December 25, 2016, for the return of Sense8. However, don’t get too comfortable because this is not the beginning of Season 2’s run. The remainder of Season 2 of Sense8 will return sometime in 2017. As yet, this date has not been announced.

  • Toby Onwumere will replace Aml Ameen, who played Capheus in Season 1 of Sense8. According to Deadline, Ameen left while filming was underway for Season 2 of Sense8. While Deadline do not know the exact reason why Ameen left, they speculate it may have been a result of a conflict between himself and Sense8‘s co-creator, Lana Wachowski, leading to creative differences. Because of this, it is speculated that Ameen left while filming in India and the Wachowskis were forced to recast the role of Capheus.
  • For fans who like visuals to pore over while they wait for the return of their favorite TV shows, the Sense8 Tumblr account is full of promotional stills from Season 2 of Sense8. You can view them all here.

  • If you thought Season 1 of Sense8 pushed the boundaries, then get ready for an expansion on this in Season 2! According to an interview Sense8 actor Max Riemelt (who plays Wolfgang) did with BuzzFeed, “There’s more sex, more violence, more of everything! We’re pushing the boundaries.”
  • Fans can expect “something special” according to Jamie Clayton (who plays Nomi in Sense8) in relation to a “behind the scenes” video.
  • Season 2 of Sense8 will focus more on the character called Whisper (Terrence Mann). And this could be thanks, in part, to Kala Dandekar (Tina Desai) being a pharmacist. “Going forward, she’ll only be able to contribute more, because in this season, there’s more of Whisper hunting us while we’re simultaneously trying to hunt him,” Tina Desai told BuzzFeed.
  • Expect Season 2 of Sense8 to further explain the Sensates and why they are the way they are. Sense8‘s co-creator J. Michael Straczynski told Gold Derby recently that Season 2 will give the audience a better understanding of why the characters in Sense8 are linked.

“In the second season… they find other clusters and people who know what’s going on. Now we begin to find out the mythology behind what it is to be a sensate.”

  • Sun (Bae Doona) plans to get revenge in Season 2 of Sense8. Season 1 saw Sun wrongfully jailed for a crime she did not commit. Season 2 will see her character grow and evolve from the first season. She will also be out to avenge her brother and father. “Sun is thirsting to get her revenge,” Bae Doona told Soompi recently in an interview.
  • Season 3 of Sense8 has not been announced yet, but if it is, Lilly Wachowski will return to the helm full time. Season 2 has seen the first-time split between the Wachowski sisters after Lilly announced she needed to take some time off to concentrate on her well-being, according to Jamie Clayton when she spoke to BuzzFeed.
