Jill Duggar Dillard’s Husband Looks Different: Derick Dillard’s Appearance Worries Fans

Jill Duggar Dillard and her husband, Derick Dillard, celebrated the Fourth of July by eating buffalo wings at a restaurant in El Salvador. However, some fans of the missionary couple fear that Derick isn’t getting enough to eat.

Jill Duggar recently shared a photo collage on Instagram that was meant to be a Fourth of July tribute. Many of her followers praised her and Derick for their patriotism, but others couldn’t get over how different Derick looks after spending the better part of a year in El Salvador. Fans have grown somewhat accustomed to seeing Derick with a beard and long hair, but his slimmer face has them concerned.

“Derrick looks very sick, and undernourished. Looks like his hair is falling out as a result as well, please take care of each other,” jmoskwa wrote.

“This makes me sad. What’s wrong with your husband? He looks very sick,” amberlynguerra agreed.

Some fans were so concerned that they begged Jill Duggar and her husband to return home.

“Omg come home already your poor husband looks so so sick… i get it you want to do good deeds but at what cost?? Look at ur wedding photos, drastic changes in his appearance,” u_dont_own_me_ commented.

The two photos at the top of the page show the dramatic change in Derick Dillard’s appearance. As you can see, his face and neck appear to be much thinner than they used to be.

Many commenters started speculating about the possible cause of the drastic change in Derick’s appearance. A few of Jill Duggar’s Instagram followers suggested that he picked up a disease in El Salvador that caused him to lose a lot of weight, and others wondered whether his weight loss is related to the jaw surgery that he underwent last year. There was speculation that something went wrong with all the orthodontic work that he had done, and some fans even expressed concerns that Derick has been abusing painkillers.

“Looks like what opiates do to addicts. Sorry but he looks terrible. I sure hope he’s ok,” flyhighbaby42313 wrote.

“I think it’s from the jaw surgeries all those dentist appointments and pain meds,” shes_def_a1 wrote.

According to People, Derick Dillard underwent surgery to have his palate expanded last April shortly after Jill Duggar gave birth. As The Inquisitr previously reported, the procedure he underwent is called surgically assisted rapid palatal expansion (S.A.R.P.E.), and it requires the fracturing and cutting of bones in the mouth. Patients are then fitted with an “orthopedic expanding appliance.”

The photo below was taken a few weeks after Derick’s surgery.

Last November, Jill Duggar revealed that Derick was having issues with his teeth. In a mission trip update posted on the Dillard Family website, she informed fans that she and Derick had found a dentist in El Salvador who could fix “an orthodontic piece that broke off.”

Some of Jill’s Instagram followers believe that Derick is so thin now because his surgery caused long-term complications that make it difficult for him to eat solid foods. However, he revealed that he and Jill celebrated Independence Day by chowing down on buffalo wings at a Pollo Campero restaurant.

Derick Dillard isn’t just causing buzz by looking completely different.
