Demi Lovato: See The Lyrics To And Stream Her New Song ‘Body Say’

Demi Lovato has been quite busy lately. Between performing at the Boston Fireworks show on the 4th, touring with Nick Jonas, and throwing shade at Selena Gomez, it’s a miracle Lovato still had time to release a song. That song, “Body Say,” has been teased on Lovato’s Twitter account for several days, and now we finally get to read the lyrics and hear the song for the first time. If you haven’t heard Demi’s catchy new tune just yet, read on.

It doesn’t take much to realize that the song lyrics are quite steamy. Demi is definitely a far cry from who she was during her Disney Channel days, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. “Body Say” starts out with a catchy, almost tropical beat.

Demi makes it very obvious right away what she wants, saying, “If I had it my way, I would take you down/if I had it my way, I would turn you out.”

As the chorus approaches, the melody changes and Demi’s vocals pick up a bit, making for a faster tempo that’s slightly reminiscent of “Neon Lights.”

In case Demi’s goals weren’t obvious yet, she continues with “our eyes crossing paths across the room/there’s only one thing left for us to do.” It seems we aren’t the only ones who’ve been dying to hear Lovato’s new song; the 23-year-old Demi posted to Twitter a few days ago with a link to the song because, well, she just couldn’t wait to share anymore.

The new single is available on a variety of streaming platforms, including Spotify, Tidal Music, Apple Music, and Google Play. An obviously very excited Lovato tweeted the links to all applicable platforms separately on her account. Time noted that Lovato’s Atlanta fans were the first to have their ears graced by “Body Say” when they saw her perform it on June 29 on her “Future Now Tour” with Nick Jonas.

Demi first proved to us that she could field powerful vocals on her hit “Confident,” which was released on the album of the same name in October 2015. In some ways, “Body Say” is the spiritual successor to Lovato’s new vocal style, which proves Demi can belt it out with the best of them.

“Body Say” was also accompanied by some spicy album art showing a fully nude Demi with her back to the camera while half-sitting, half-kneeling on a bed. A bra presumably belonging to the pop diva sits just a few inches away from her photo shoot. Somewhere, a Lovatic is either crying from joy or possibly shame.

Billboard found that Demi also teased “Body Say” on Instagram by posting nude black-and-white photos from the single’s artwork. Lovato’s typical songwriting style is to write about topics that are close to her, including her complicated relationship with her father and her challenges in overcoming drug abuse. “Skyscraper” is one such example of her more personal songwriting efforts. However, Demi occasionally switches things up to include songs on things like sexuality and romantic relationships.

Lovato recently had a hit with “Cool For the Summer,” a catchy jam about experimenting with her sexuality and coming into her own as a person. That song is also featured on her album Confident. “Body Say” definitely sums up who Demi is as a person and artist lately, and perfectly exemplifies the changes she’s gone through.
