XBox Scorpio Rumored To Be As Powerful As Gaming PCs, But How Long Would That Remain True?

The XBox Scorpio is rumored to be as powerful as gaming PCs, but the big question is whether or not it’s going to be able to keep up as more powerful PCs hit the market.

In a report by Forbes, it was noted that the XBox Scorpio would be as powerful as a gaming rig. The debate between consoles and PCs has gone on for years. Microsoft could be changing the game, no pun intended, and the blueprint for their latest console could serve to even those odds. Of course, Sony is coming out with a system of its own. The PlayStation 4 Neo is in development, though it’s still up in the air as to just how powerful a console it will be. Rumors continue to suggest that the gap between performance on console and PC will lessen, but time might be the factor that tells the story.

Console developers stated that the XBox Scorpio would be the most powerful console on the market when it’s released. However, the system most likely won’t be seeing the light of day until over a year from now. Technology appears to release at least a year or two apart. Phones, computers, and other tech have a lifespan of around two years or more. This depends on how well it’s maintained, and the amount of use that it sees on a daily basis. With that in mind, perhaps the XBox Scorpio will fulfill the promise that Microsoft brought to E3 when announcing the console. Fans are on high alert, hoping that the wait will be justified.

While it might be many times more powerful than the XBox One, what will the Scorpio compare to when it’s finally released? There is no official date for when the system drops, so it’s likely that there could be technology that surpasses the current plan. In a report by Gaming Bolt, it was felt that the Scorpio would surpass current computers but get outpaced.

CD Projekt RED’s Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, a Narrative Designer working on the Gwent card game aspect of The Witcher 3, weighed in on the Scorpio and what he expects may happen in the grand scheme of things.

“For sure the Scorpio will have better looking games,” Tomaszkiewicz began. “If this was available when we were working on Wild Hunt I would expect similar quality that we have on PC right now or even better, maybe.”

Mateusz continued, elaborating with his personal opinion on the XBox Scorpio’s lifespan.

“This is my personal opinion: I don’t know that much about it. I think PCs are growing and developing super fast,” he stated. “New graphic cards are being released very often and more often than the new consoles being released. So I think it will put Scorpio on par with the PCs that we have at that point. But I think PC is growing so fast that it’ll outpace Scorpio.”

Still, the XBox Scorpio is said to outdo other consoles. PC aside, it will certainly turn the heads of those who are looking to get the greatest system in terms of performance. The Scorpio system will include 4k resolution and will be VR compatible. That’s quite a bit of power, giving it the same amount of ability as a gaming PC today. Perhaps Microsoft might even be planning for this, taking into account the amount of time it will take to market and release the XBox Scorpio.

Do you think that the XBox Scorpio will live up to the standard that Microsoft is projecting? Do you believe that consoles will ever surpass gaming PCs? Sound off in the comment section below.
