WWE News: WWE Chairman Vince McMahon Still Wants The Shield Versus The Club Storyline

In what could only be seen as one of the greatest storyline possibilities out there, many have hoped to see The Shield take on The Club. In theory, the match makes total sense. You have some of the top stars in all of pro-wrestling coming together to be part of one amazing storyline. In theory, a match with these men is clearly one of the best ideas you could have. In theory, the storyline could bring people in to watch or bring people back. However, theories are just that until they actually happen.

The Shield vs. The Club makes sense on paper. The Club happens to be a part of one of the hottest wrestling factions in the world, just WWE’s version of it. Meanwhile, The Shield is one of the most popular factions of all time with now all three members having won World Titles with the company. Fans have been begging to see The Shield reform to take on someone, and it doesn’t matter who it is, either. Fans would say, “WWE needs to bring back The Shield” without even caring that they pretty much hate each other these days.

WWE seems to be listening, up to a point. Daily Wrestling News reports that WWE Chairman Vince McMahon still wants to make The Shield vs. The Club happen at some point. Vince reportedly wants to build up The Club before this might happen, naturally. There is also a plan to add Finn Balor to the group, as rumored. This is set to help the group even more so, as an additional top star could be of use to the team. The idea is that it would be done to strengthen them as a unit.

It has been stated that the current rivalry between Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, and Roman Reigns would not affect the possible future match. Of course a lot of things do change due to future events. A source told DWN that it would likely be several months before this match happened, if they go through with it. Of course, a lot of things are a bit off here. Let’s start with the obvious stuff.

Seth Rollins is one of the hottest singles workers in the world right now, as is Dean Ambrose, the current WWE Champion. Meanwhile, WWE wants Roman Reigns to be “the guy” in WWE and wants to push him as a top singles act as well. They’re all perfect alone, and unlike a DX reformation with Triple H and Shawn Michaels, these guys are not toward the end of their careers but rather still beginning them.

Due to the singles material, they have to be enemies. They’re at the top of the card and will fight for titles a lot over the years. All three are valuable more so alone than together as a faction. With WWE wanting Rollins to be the top heel and Reigns to be the top babyface, a lot of things would have to happen for them to form as a team. On top of this, Dean Ambrose is a wildcard in all of this as well as he may always hate Rollins. There is also no telling what goes down with Reigns once he returns.

Ambrose is the kind of guy, or type of character, to hold grudges. Rightfully so, though, as he was betrayed by Rollins and could be enemies with Reigns in the future. No one knows if he’ll remain a babyface or go heel, and no one knows what he’ll do or when. You can’t be sure what goes down with the guy. The only thing for sure with Ambrose is that if he hates you, that does not totally change.

Even if we got past all of this in order to have the match take place, the WWE brand split is upcoming. On July 19, the WWE Draft will take place and people from the WWE will be scattered about on two different brands, RAW and SmackDown. This is a good thing for the WWE and their future, as storylines could get better and both shows will actually be worthy of watching. It will also help give some spotlight to those who have not been given a chance to shine as much as others.

The Shield and Club will be lucky if they’re even on the same show at that point. That is already highly doubtful as it is and we’re expecting a rivalry with these teams to take place? One could imagine that WWE may want to do some sort of cross-brand material, at least at one of the Big 4 shows like a WWE Survivor Series. However, we also go back to the issues with at least 4 men being top singles acts and needing to be in top singles matches by the time these shows came around.

While it would be wrong to say that it would never happen, as that can’t be said in pro-wrestling, we can know that it won’t happen any time soon. At least, as long as there is a need for top singles stars in the WWE.
