‘Big Bang Theory’ Spoilers: Howard’s Paranoia About The Air Force May Not Be Unfounded

Viewers of the Season 9 finale of The Big Bang Theory most likely remember that implied hook-up between Sheldon’s mother and Leonard’s father, played by phenomenal guest actors Laurie Metcalf and Judd Hirsch. (Check out Vulture for a recap). But there was another sub-plot nestled in that episode: the receipt of an email from the Air Force that showed interest in Howard Wolowitz’s new invention.

According to Entertainment Weekly‘s “Spoiler Room” column, Wolowitz may have been wise to worry about that email and what it means for his project. Executive producer Steve Molaro said the story will pick up during Season 10.

“Based on what we’ve learned and what we’ve been researching, it could be fine, but I think there is a small percentage chance that they should actually be concerned. That storyline is certainly not finished. They have no choice but to see what the Air Force wants and then go from there.”

But anyone who wants to know how Ms. Cooper and Mr. Hofstadter finished off their evening likely won’t be disappointed. Shortly after the episode aired in May, Molaro told TV Line that the loose ends will receive some resolution when new installments of The Big Bang Theory start to air in the fall. Fans will find out if Leonard and Penny go through with a second wedding and whether any more of her family members show up. They may also discover whether the Hofstadter/Cooper union was just a fling or something more. The season premiere of The Big Bang Theory will pick up right where the finale left off.

“That is the plan. Barring a catastrophic scheduling issue, that’s what we are shooting for.

“It’s a little early to say for sure but we would very much like to meet Penny’s mom and her brother, as well.”

As for actually seeing another round of Leonard and Penny’s vows — which were a key part of the Season 9 finale when the couple decided to make it official in Vegas while their friends watched via internet live stream — Molaro said there just might not be enough time.

As for that implied hook-up, Molaro was clear to Glamour blogger Jessica Radloff that it was indeed implied — the producers have yet to determine whether the two actually did the deed or simply went out for coffee. Talk of Leonard and Sheldon becoming stepbrothers seems premature at this point, even if it is possible that The Big Bang Theory will be renewed beyond Season 10 and there is plenty more time for a relationship to develop.

“All I know is that two people met and hit it off and left to go for a nightcap. I think it’s much more interesting with us wondering what’s going on.”

But while excitement builds for another season of all-new Big Bang Theory episodes, some of the powers that be have already begun discussing the potential of an eleventh season for the popular sitcom. As of now, the cast and production company are only committed through the end of Season 10, but as TV Line reported, core cast members of Kaley Cuoco, Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki expressed a desire to keep the show on the air as long as the audience is receptive. Inquisitr reported this week that the actors have begun talks to extend their contracts.
