NBA Free Agency: Orlando Magic Signing Jeff Green To A $15 Million Deal

Jeff Green went into the off season as a free agent. According to ESPN,Green has come to terms on a contract with the Orlando Magic. His agent declined to reveal the details of the agreement, but several sources have stated it will be a one year deal worth $15 million.

Jeff Green will be entering his ninth season in the NBA. The Orlando Magic will be the fifth team he has played for. The former Georgetown Hoyas star has played for the Boston Celtics, Oklahoma City Thunder, Memphis Grizzlies, Los Angeles Clippers and now the Magic.

Last season, the Los Angeles Clippers received Jeff Green in a trade with the Memphis Grizzlies, as reported by NBA.com. The Grizzlies received Lance Stephenson and a future projected first round pick. Green reunited with head coach Doc Rivers. He coached Green when they were together with the Boston Celtics.

Jeff Green averaged 10.9 points in 26.6 minutes for the Los Angeles Clippers. He started 10 out of the 27 games for the Clippers. At times, Green showed the potential that made him the fifth overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft.

Coming into the off season, many people believed that the Los Angeles Clippers would resign Jeff Green. For the past several seasons, the Clippers never had a quality starter at the small forward position. When they traded for Green, they believed that he would be the starter for the next several years.

Things did not turn out that way. The Los Angeles Clippers were attempting to convince Kevin Durant to sign with them. With the Clippers putting their full attention to the former MVP, it was clear that they were not going to bring back Jeff Green. Green decided to meet with other teams.

The Orlando Magic reached out to Jeff Green about joining their roster. The Magic have been very busy so far this off season. They made a trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder for Serge Ibaka, as reported by ESPN. The Magic received Ibaka. The Thunder received Victor Oladipo, Ersan Ilyasova and the rights to Domantas Sabonis.

The Orlando Magic decided to trade for Serge Ibaka to add a defensive presence on their team. Ibaka is one of the better defending big men in the NBA. He has the potential to be an elite rim protector for head coach Frank Vogel. Ibaka added some long range shooting to his game. The Magic hope he will be able to lead their young team.

Not only did the Orlando Magic sign Jeff Green. They also signed point guard D.J. Augustin on Friday, according to Yahoo! Sports. The former Texas Longhorns star agreed to a four year deal worth $29 million. Augustin played for Frank Vogel with the Indiana Pacers. He will be backing up Elfrid Payton.

The Orlando Magic also came to an agreement with restricted free agent Evan Fournier. He signed a five year deal worth $85 million, as reported by CBS Sports. Fournier has shown that he is a quality shooter in the NBA.

Orlando Magic general manager Rob Hennigan has been adding veteran players who have experience playing in the NBA Playoffs. They have a young core consisting of Elfrid Payton, Nikola Vucevic, and Aaron Gordon.

Jeff Green might be coming off the bench for the Orlando Magic next season. He will have to compete with Aaron Gordon this summer for a starting position. Green is a very versatile player who can play both forward positions. He can be an offensive threat for the Magic. Green is a very smart player.

The Orlando Magic have been very busy this off season. They added some key pieces to go around their young core. The Magic could be a force in the Eastern Conference next season.
