GFriend Once Again Praised For Professionalism For Finishing Performance At Lotte Water Park, Drenched By Heavy Rain

When it comes to the K-pop industry, it is no secret that K-pop acts put in determination and dedication to become the next Girls’ Generation, Big Bang, EXO, BTS, or 2NE1. However, the ones who are often recognized for professionalism are those who work through harsh conditions (for a K-pop group) or unforeseen circumstances.

K-pop girl group Sistar is well-known for continuing their performances even after slips and falls. During one of their performances, member Bora fractured her thumb. Despite the situation, Sistar finished up their performance. Stellar is a K-pop girl group recently-known for their professionalism. During their performance of “Marionette,” the backtrack started to skip near the end. Stellar repeated the same dance move over and over again until the backtrack stopped. After collecting themselves, Stellar finished the song acapella.

Professionalism can go a long way for a K-pop group. For one, however, professionalism is what made them popular in the K-pop industry. This K-pop group is GFriend and they received international appeal when a video of their performance of “Me Gusta Tu” went viral. In it, members Yuju and SinB fell a total of eight times due to the slippery conditions of the stage. Still, GFriend picked themselves back up and finished their song.

Now there is news that GFriend is once again being praised for professionalism. According to reports, GFriend performed at the Lotte Water Park during heavy rain. Despite the torrential downpour soaking the girls to the bone, GFriend finished their performance.

The performance took place on Saturday, July 2, at the Lotte Water Park, as reported by AllKpop. In the middle of their rendition of “To My Boyfriend” by old school K-pop girl group Fin.K.L., the weather took a turn for the worse as heavy rains started to pour. Despite the dangerous conditions, they stayed focused as they finished up the song. It also helped out that the audience cheered them on, probably knowing about the time GFriend received international critical-acclaim for their professionalism.

Korean news outlet Insight provided numerous videos of GFriend’s performance at the Lotte Water Park. Most of them were shot by attendees in the audience so the quality can be a bit lacking.

It is possible that GFriend’s performance has nothing to do with their first studio album. GFriend, so far, has only released EPs, known as mini-albums in South Korea. They started with Season of Glass (featuring “Glass Bead”), followed by Flower Bud (featuring “Me Gusta Tu”), and recently released Snowflake (featuring “Rough”). If GFriend were to start promoting their studio album, their entertainment label, Source Music, would most likely utilize social media and the internet by releasing teasers such as a photoshoot or a promo clip of the studio album’s featured song.

Also, there is no way their performance had anything to do with Snowflake. Despite the obvious fact that GFriend is working on their studio album now, promotions for that EP most likely ended about three months ago since Snowflake came out in late January of this year.

Overall, GFriend’s performance is the K-pop girl group fulfilling contractual duties. Last month, GFriend became the endorsement models of Lotte Water Park. This is a huge opportunity for both, because it provides a public stage for GFriend at a popular summer attraction, while GFriend’s target demographic of people in their 20s and 30s may find the need to go to the Lotte Water Park, especially if GFriend is there in the first place. An entertainment representative provided further details on the new professional partnership.

“GFriend has been chosen as the model for ‘Gimhae Lotte Water Park.’ The friendly and healthy image of GFriend works well with the exciting image of the water park and the group was considered likely to appeal to the young visitors at peak season, so GFriend, the most popular girl group these days, was selected.”

As for GFriend’s upcoming studio album, teasers should start coming in as its scheduled to be released on Monday, July 11. What we do know is the album’s title, for the time being, is LOL, the acronym for “Laugh Out Loud” and “Lots Of Love.”
