WWE Has Huge Plans For July 4th Edition Of ‘Monday Night Raw,’ Could Kurt Angle Be Involved?

Last year, WWE had an excellent idea to have the “Beast of the East” live event from Japan air on the WWE Network early in the morning on the fourth of July. The event was a huge success, and the biggest highlight was Finn Balor returning to Japan to capture the NXT Championship against Kevin Owens.

This year, WWE was lucky enough for July 4 to fall on a Monday. Unsurprisingly, there are huge plans being developed by WWE officials for the show. It’s expected to be a big night for WWE programming heading into the brand split and celebrating a major holiday live from Columbus, Ohio. According to a report from Daily Wrestling News, some matches and segments have already been announced by WWE. Based on what has been announced, there are bound to be quite a few surprises up WWE’s sleeve.

First and foremost, the current WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Dean Ambrose, is going to have a big night. Although he’s billed from Cincinnati, Ohio, Columbus is only a few hours away, and he still expected to receive a hometown reaction from his home state that will be seeing him for the first time as the WWE Champion.

During the show, Ambrose will have a match against the current Intercontinental Champion, The Miz, who could be a hometown hero as well since he was born and raised in Parma and is billed from Cleveland. The two Ohio natives will have a non-title, champion vs. champion match.

Another match that WWE has announced for the card is a 16-man Elimination Match between Team USA vs. Team International. As of this writing, WWE hasn’t revealed any names for the two teams, but you can probably guess some of the names that will be involved in the match. At the very least, it’s going to be highly entertaining.

Of course, WWE couldn’t have an episode of Monday Night Raw on the Fourth of July without a United States Championship title defense. That means the heated rivalry between Rusev and Titus O’Neil will be getting a big match during this special edition of Raw. The decision has been made by WWE officials that The Bulgarian Brute will defend the U.S. title against Titus O’Neil, and either man could walk out the U.S. Champion.

Titus has become much more aggressive since Rusev decided to verbally attack his family after defeating O’Neil at Money in the Bank a few weeks ago. The feud has become much more personal because of that action, and it’s not out of the question for WWE to give the WWE Universe a title change on a big show and try to create a big “American” moment for Titus O’Neil.

The one segment that has a lot of people talking is the announcement that a former WWE SmackDown General Manager will be appearing on the show to hype the WWE Draft and brand split that will be occurring roughly two weeks from that night. Over the past few weeks, Teddy Long and John Laurinaitis have both made brief cameos to hype the brand extension and leave.

However, there has been a massive amount of speculation that Kurt Angle will return to WWE during the July 4 edition of Raw. It may be highly unlikely, but don’t forget that Angle was a WWE SmackDown GM for a brief time period.

The rumor mill has been full of news surrounding a possible Kurt Angle return over the past couple of weeks. There are few in the wrestling industry as patriotic as Angle, which could make WWE’s Fourth of July edition of Monday Night Raw an historic night.
