Colin Firth Fights For Love In New ‘Bridget Jones’ Movie, Portrays Editor Who Discovered Hemingway And Fitzgerald In ‘Genius’

Colin Firth has been quite busy lately, with his recently released film Genius as well as the upcoming film titled Bridget Jones’ Baby, according to Time. The King’s Speech actor is starring alongside Renée Zellweger and Patrick Dempsey in the film.

In the new trailer for Bridget Jones’ Baby, it appears that Colin Firth gets in the middle of a love triangle. As it can be seen from the trailer, while Daniel Cleaver (played by Hugh Grant) didn’t make it in the third installment of the series, Jack Qwant (Patrick Dempsey) was added to the plot.

It appears that Bridget Jones (played by Renée Zellweger) finds it difficult to decide who she wants to be with: Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) or Jack Qwant (Patrick Dempsey). And she finds a perfect solution: enjoy the company of them both at the same time.

But then surprise, surprise, Bridget gets pregnant, and she can’t quite figure out who the father is: Colin Firth’s or Patrick Dempsey’s character. But both Mark and Jack’s love for Bridget is so powerful they want to be the father of that child.

In the trailer, it can be seen how Colin Firth’s and Dempsey’s characters fight one another to win Bridget’s heart. The film, directed by Sharon Maguire, hits theaters on September 16.

But Colin Firth’s current project that deserves the spotlight is Genius, directed by Michael Grandage, according to Deadline. Genius was picked up by Lionsgate in 2015 ahead of the Cannes Film Festival, but the film’s crew couldn’t come up with the title until this year’s Berlinale.

The drama starring Colin Firth, Nicole Kidman, Jude Law, and Laura Linney (as well as Guy Pearce and Dominic West) tells the story of both personal and professional relationship between book editor Maxwell Perkins and American novelist Thomas Wolfe.

The film was based on the biography Max Perkins: Editor of Genius written by A. Scott Berg, and shows how Perkins (played by Colin Firth) discovered Ernest Hemingway and F. Scott Fitzgerald. Guy Pearce got the opportunity to play Fitzgerald, while Dominic West was honored by being asked to portray Hemingway.

A costume designer played by Nicole Kidman is a love interest of Wolfe, played by Jude Law. The film, which was released on June 10, is centered around the one of a kind relationship between literary giants Wolfe and Perkins.

As a result of their collaboration, Wolfe and Perkins put together such masterpieces as Look Homeward Angel and Of Time And The River.

Speaking to Deadline, Roadside co-president Howard Cohen explained that the film starring Colin Firth and Jude Law was made for “an upscale, older audience” that has a great interest in “great books” written by “great writers.”

“Thomas Wolfe will be a discovery for some who see the movie. There are lots of fans of [Berg’s] book, but beyond that, there are fans of Hemingway and Fitzgerald who will like the film.”

Colin Firth’s Genius is not the only offspring of the collaboration between Roadside and Lionsgate. The two production companies have worked on quite a few movies with star-studded casts and showed their films in several hundred theaters. But Cohen revealed that they didn’t want to do their usual “three hundred or so screens” with Genius. Instead, they opted for what they did with The Skeleton Twins starring Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader, which opened in only 15 theaters two years ago.

The Skeleton Twins then grossed more than $5.28 million, but will such names as Colin Firth, Jude Law, and Nicole Kidman help Genius gross even more?
