Are any stores open on the Fourth of July? Whether you need to go to Walmart, Target, Home Depot, or Lowe’s for a gas grill for your Independence Day party, or Costco, Whole Foods, Publix, Stop and Shop, or Trader Joe’s for all the fixings for your holiday cookout, here’s the low-down on Monday’s retail store hours for malls, big box stores, home improvement stores, and supermarkets.

The Fourth of July, formerly known as Independence Day, is a federal holiday, so most banks, credit unions, state and federal offices will be closed on Monday. According to the U.S. Postal Service, there won’t be any mail delivery, either. All post office locations will be closed on July 4 and will reopen on Tuesday, July 2. no mail delivery on May 30.

However, not everything will be closed on Monday and it’s a huge day to score some great deals at your favorite store, so you can shop ’til you drop at a long list of retailers if stimulating the economy is your way of saying, “Happy Birthday, America!”

It’s a no-brainer that Walmart stores will be open for business as usual on the Fourth of July holiday. With over 5,000 locations in the U.S., including more than 3,000 Walmart Supercenters that are open 24-hours a day, it’s a popular stop for many of the things consumers need to kick off their 4th of July celebration including hot dogs, hamburgers, grills, mosquito repellant, gas and charcoal grills, patio furniture, sunblock, and a cheap Independence Day t-shirt.

In addition to Walmart, most big box stores including Target, Best Buy, Sears, and KMart will also be open on Monday, but it’s always a good idea to call ahead just in case your local store is operating on a special holiday schedule.

Barbecues are a big part of the Fourth of July celebration, you will need plenty of food if you are planning to have friends and family over for a cookout. If you can’t get to the grocery store until Monday morning, don’t worry. In addition to Walmart Supercenters, many supermarkets including Publix, Kroger, Stop and Shop, Whole Foods, and Trader Joe’s will be open on Monday, but many will have special holiday hours — check with your local store before you head out.

If you’re entertaining a big crowd, warehouse stores like Costco and Sam’s Club are popular places to shop for holiday barbecues. However, you won’t be able to shop at Costco on the Fourth of July — all locations will be closed for the holiday, but all Sam’s Club stores will be open 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. for members.

Skipping the party and doing a home reno project this weekend? According to Holiday Shopping Hours, most Home Depot and Lowe’s stores will be open on July 4, so you can get started on building a new deck so you can host big family cookouts all summer long.

Many malls and factory outlet stores will be open on Independence Day and there are holiday sales galore taking place throughout the three-day weekend at stores like Macy’s, JC Penney, Old Navy, American Eagle, Pink, and Hollister. If you are hoping to set off a few consumer-approved fireworks during the holiday weekend, it won’t be hard to find a store or roadside stand selling bottle rockets, sparklers, firecrackers, and roman candles. Retailers including Phantom Fireworks, TNT Fireworks, and Fireworks Supermarket all offer coupons for free or discounted fireworks and each website lists locations for brick-and-mortar stores and roadside tents.
