After losing to the Miami Marlins 8-0 Sunday night, the group of rookies — which included Tyler Moore, Corey Brown, Eury Perez, Sandy Leon, Christian Garcia, Steve Lombardozzi and Bryce Harper — dressed up like the United States women’s Olympic gymnastics team for their final road trip of the season to New York.

Taking to his twitter account, the National’s pitcher Gio Gonzalez shared photos of his newest teammates decked out in their red spandex uniforms complete with faux gold medals.

In the first tweet Gonzalez posted a picture of Washington’s “Fab Seven,” along with the caption:

“The 2012 Olympians that didn’t make the cut this year”

Gonzalez continued by tweeting that his teammates “Wore our colors proudly” as he showed another photo of the players displaying an Olympic flag as they seemingly prepared to board a train in New York.

“I’m humiliated for them,” First baseman Adam LaRoche told MASN Sports after Sunday’s game. “I remember dressing up in a Spiderman spandex costume about nine or 10 years ago (as a rookie with the Braves). It’s not a good feeling.”

The Washington Post points out this year’s hazing festivities wasn’t the first time rookie initiation has happened in the National’s clubhouse.

Last year, the Nats had the entire rookie squad painted blue as smurfs.

The Post noted:

This includes Stephen Strasburg dressed up as Papa Smurf with red pants and hat, Wilson Ramos as Smurfette, and Danny Espinosa holding a dumbell as Hefty Smurf.
