Justin Bieber & Major Lazer Tap Ed Sheeran For ‘Cold Water,’ Biebs And Jaxon Adorable At Concert

Here’s exciting music news. Justin Bieber and MØ’s “Cold Water” collaboration with Major Lazer will also feature the talents of Ed Sheeran and Benny Blanco.

Even better, the highly anticipated new single drops later this month, as per a tweet posted from Justin Bieber’s official account on Friday.

“#coldwater coming this month. Me, @MAJORLAZER @ItsBennyBlanco @edsheeran,” the Canadian tweeted on Friday (July 1), adding fire-emojis.

Shortly afterwards, Diplo shared a tweet saying the release date would be July 15. However, almost immediately, the producer-DJ deleted it.

But, fear not, the new song is definitely coming this month. Earlier this week (July 6), more confirmation that D-day is approaching arrived when Diplo responded to a tweet shared by Bieber’s manager, Scooter Braun. (See below). The jam will premiere on Beats 1 radio.

Fast forward to July 8, two tweets appeared on the official Justin Bieber Twitter account, beginning a countdown to the release of “Cold Water.” The first tweet clarified that Sheeran is a co-writer on the song, not a singer.

It reads, “#coldwater 2 weeks. @MAJORLAZER @diplo let’s go. And for those asking written with @ItsBennyBlanco and @edsheeran. He ain’t on it.”

In his next tweet Bieber wrote, “#countdown #coldwater #2weeks @MAJORLAZER and me.”

Back in May, Diplo revealed Major Lazer’s “Cold Water” single would feature Bieber and MØ during his Lazer Sound Beats 1 show. In addition, to buzz about Diplo and the Biebs teaming up again, Sheeran and Blanco’s involvement has increased the hype because the last time they worked with Bieber the result was the smash “Love Yourself.”

The song went on to top multiple charts around the world, including Billboard’s Hot 100, Britain’s Official Top 40, and Australia’s ARIA singles chart. It’s also the best-selling single of 2016. With this context, fans’ expectations for “Cold Water” are high.

In other Justin Bieber music news, the singer has now entered the final leg of his Purpose World Tour’s North American run, which is set to wrap at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on June 18 and 19. As per national tour promoter AEG, the Canadian topped this week’s crop of grossing touring artists with ($14 million) in box-office revenue from 11 sold-out concerts.

This brings the Biebs total tour gross to $70 million from a sum of 51 performances since the tour kicked off on March 9 in Seattle, Washington. After the North American run, the pop icon heads to Tokyo in August. Come fall, a three-month stint through Europe awaits.

Meanwhile, Bieber reportedly wowed Newark, New Jersey when his Purpose Tour hit the Prudential Center on Saturday night. The 22-year-old delighted an audience of over 19,000 fans with hits including “Sorry,” “What Do You Mean?” and the Jack Ü collaboration, “Where Are Ü Now.”

During the water-drenched encore, when the Biebs performs “Sorry,” the singer’s 6-year-old brother, Jaxon, was brought on stage to join in the fun. Cue adorable moments between the brothers as they splashed around with the dancers.

At one point, Justin kissed his little sibling, who was wearing headphones to protect his ears. The Biebs then carried the child off-stage, amid collective “ahh’s” and screams from the audience.
